Wow that was hard to watch in the second half.
Felt we should have taken Carroll off and put more pace on to try and catch them on the break.

Still I think we would have all taken a 1-0 win before the start.

i'll have a go at stirring then! we were outplayed in the 1st half by a long way, but carroll looks like he'd struggle playing for the dog & duck!

genuinely, what the hell has happened to him? he started so well (against us last season)

What's happened, my nouveau riche friend, is that he gets zero service from his Liverpool team mates. This in turn knocks his confidence and his touch goes.

He had 2 chances tonight, one a good one from a decent ball which he should have taken. The second from a pretty ordinary cross which he just flashed wide.

I've read a bit lately from certain clowns saying that Shelvey is better than Henderson. C'mon, own up, who said it?

Back to tonight, those substitutions and change of formations were bloody daft but you can't argue with the result.

Fantastic result, probably the most boring game I've ever watched. Got a ticket for the return leg, that should be a great night.

All you ..........'people' moaning about Carroll, we played 9-0-1 for most of the game. What do you expect him to do away against the wealthiest club on the planet. It's so obvious that so few on here have actually played the game at a decent standard.

frankly, balls. savic was there for the taking and showed his biggest frailty which is that he doesn't put his head where it hurts which is carroll's strength. carroll should have been on him like glue and would have got plenty of result.

£35m is an awful lot to pay for a guy who can only head the ball towards goal. the best front men hold the ball up even from balls pumped downfield from the keeper/CB. carroll used to do this for newcastle, but doesn't seem to in a red shirt.

How would you assess Balotelli's contribution tonight?

well below normal, which is pretty good. why? what's that got to do with andy carroll. he doesn't even show flickers of the player he was.

he would have bullied lescott and savic all game in a black and white shirt.

well said and it mirrors my sentiments too.

i can't believe how many people are moaning about this and how few posts there have been about what a great result this is. we just won away at city and not only did we keep a clean sheet - we completely bossed them in a defence vs attack sense. yes it was a dry game but what we can take from this is the knowledge that we really are tight at the back (rude) and we know how to see a game out.

kenny got this one spot on in my opinion and deserves some plaudits.

Great win tonight.
Think the team played quite well together. Caroll did well too considering he was up there on his own. He won the majority of the balls that were threw upto him.
Don't think Downin had a good game. Was glad when Enrique came on as he's more of a winger than Downin in my eyes. Shame that we were defending deep when he came on.

I did say that you'd get at least a draw.

However, I've been out. Did Carroll score the winner?

You seem to be trying to deflect attention away from the result and your team's slump in form. Can't blame you. 4 defeats in 8 - ouch.

what? by saying 'we were outplayed in the 1st half by a long way' a few posts up?

we were awful tonight, and 10 of your players looked like they really wanted to win.

forget it. might get more sense on rawk.

I'm pleased for the lad that he's back on scoring form.
