Coutinho doesn't have a release clause in his contract, he's only recently signed a four year deal and Liverpool are adamant he isn't going anywhere. Still at least the news takes the pressure of us for a change.
.
But as I said on their thread, why would you keep a player that's handed in a transfer request?.
It never works.

Liverpool can be as adamant as they want, it's all irrelevant now the player has handed in a transfer request and with an interested club with money to burn. They can of course continue to turn down the money and not sell him but he's an expensive asset to have sat around not playing and the bean counters will only let that go on so long before they'd rather have the cash in the bank.48k said:

Keita has a release clause that becomes active next summer, so if they wanted to cash in the time was now. Southampton are having to put up with their captain and best player currently not training with the squad or playing for them.
As Guvernator says, Coutinho has a long contract, no release clause and he's (as yet) not refusing to play (nor does he come across as a player who is likely to use that tactic). Unless Leipzig suddenly decide to sell Keita, there is no chance we're selling Coutinho this summer.

Annoyingly I think it's been a good window for arsenal.
Sanchez and Ox could still go.Potentially we've got a good First XI but we seem to have replaced a midfield that was only functional with Cazorla with one that is only functional with Xhaka.
That said I think Xhaka might be a player that might surprise a few people this year after a difficult first season.

I wish someone rich would come in and buy Tottenham, if only just to stop all this transfer speculation BS where according to the papers, half our team are for sale EVERY SINGLE YEAR!
Still could be worse, could be Liverpool, apparently they are rich and apparently don't need the money and yet they still get hit with transfer gossip and sell their best players every year.

How is it irrelevant? Keita hasn't been sold. VVD hasn't been sold (and he's throwing more of a tantrum than Keita or Coutinho). Who said Coutinho won't play? Nor do we need cash in the bank.

IF you was Leipzig or Southampton and you heard via the grape vine/rumours of the potential Coutinho deal, would you sell your players for X when you know Liverpool are likely to have a bigger war chest to play with and then screw them over for more money? Youd be doing yourself out of potentially millions just by doing an early deal. Its no different to when Bale joined RMIn fact Leipzig and Southampton are in worse positions than us. We had already ended our interest in Keita and VVD by the time Barca came in for Coutinho. Ascayman said:
Pretty much all but RT are in denial even now. A few that have been posting on here in the last 24hrs look particularly foolish now.
RT would have a field day in here if he was a Spurs fan. Literally everything he says about FSG could be aimed at Levy. Not willing to spend money on new signings.
Not willing to pay players properly.
Just out to make a profit, trying to run the club on the cheap.
Not winning anything as a result.
Just count yourselves lucky.
Just take Rose - RT would be saying he is perfectly right, Levy is being cheap, why would he stay when he's been promised wins etc. Not to mention selling a player to a direct rival previously. Yet (mostly) you're all saying players will stay because they're loyal (Countinho), you can't afford to pay more as a club etc. You're in the same position as most Liverpool fans. Just you don't have a complete **** in the thread pointing it out, wanting you to lose to get rid of the manager (RT has actually said he wanted us to lose previously) etc.
