If you don't go down, the ref doesn't give the foul/pen.

Salah was repeatedly fouled.

I agree, he was being fouled which is why he went down. If he doesn't go down, the ball just rolls out and ref gives nothing.

But the defender didn't actually bring him down. So Salah dived to force the ref into making the decision. Which was always gonna be a pen in that situation.

I know you all love these hehe

The last time United lost to Everton by 4 clear goals was in 1984.

Liverpool won the league and European Cup

Read this morning that if Watford win the FA Cup, whoever finishes 6th plays Europa League qualifiers.

Imagine Utd trying to sign players with important games against Dinamo Minsk coming up in July! rofl

I don’t see why this is such a debate as it’s so bloody obvious to everyone including Jenas and Keown last night.

Salah was clearly impeded with both arms round his torso and shoulders/neck. So it was a clear foul.

The ref should give it without Salah having to go down but might not.

Salah makes a meal of it and goes down theatrically to force the ref to consider the foul.

It’s not a dive as a dive is when a player goes down without being fouled in order to cheat the ref.

This is the main point - manhandling goes on at every corner or free kick and nothing is rarely given unless the player goes down. A few matches where refs clamped down on defenders having both arms all over a player - they'd all stop doing it. The only reason it's so prevalent now is they get away with it.

Another stat.

Assuming City win their remaining games they'll have won 18 of their 19 games in the second half of the season.

The fact they're still behind us is incredible.

Well if they win all their remaining games, they won't be behind you?

I was just gonna say, they aren't behind us.

True. If it comes to pass though you can look at that record and say the better team won.

Still a reasonable sized 'if'

Pair of hair splitters! hehe

They ARE behind us.

They won't be if they win all their remaining games. Given their performances in winning so many games, it's incredible we are still ahead of them, was surely the point. We're all rpetty much agreed we've had a great season - and it's had to be to get even close to City, never mind leading them, at the moment.

It gives some perspective when people like me are bashing our 'bad' run.

Win one more game and it's our (second) best ever league point haul, ever.

If that incident happens in the middle of the pitch, the ref blows up without Salah going down at all. Why do refs deem it different in the area?

Because it takes more guts to award a penalty than a free kick due to possibility of human error?
