Nope, that's not the case. "Clear and obvious" was never to apply to offsides. Only to penalties, red cards, or stuff that is subjective. When VAR was being discussed, and most people were supporting it (I was always against it), offsides were always going to be a binary decision, off or on.
What we have with offsides was always what they said we were going to have.
I still think either the off-side rule needs changing or the way it interacts with VAR needs changing as it is ruining the fan experience. What we have with offsides was always what they said we were going to have.
I'm not sure if the BBC has access to the same frame rates as the VAR refs but in the decision last night the difference in one frame made it impossible to judge where KdB had made contact with the ball when passing it.
I've heard one suggestion of VAR using thicker lines for the last defender and the attackers position, if the lines overlap go with the on-field decision.

I saw the same discussion and agree that offside was the wrong call. The problem with thicker lines is there will still be someone 1mm the wrong side of a thicker line and people will demand even thicker lines and so on. Get shut of southgate and employ Klinsmann whilst he's available.
That would be hilarious. Employ someone who hasn’t a real job in management in over a decade. Had a shocker at Bayern and has pissed about in the US until he stopped working 5 years ago. What a CV. Even my team (RoI) would probably be nervous about appointing him

Perhaps thicker lines might provide an answer but (again IMO) the benefit of the doubt should always be given to the attacking side - if someone needs to study the pictures for more than a few seconds it's onside in my view!

Chilwell & Mount confirmed as now in isolation until 28.06.21.
Why on earth do they need to do that. It's bonkers.JNW1 said:

England will be seeded in the WC qualifiers as usual. Which will mean they get drawn against dross and walk the qualifiers, as usual. It would be more helpful if they actually played some decent teams in the qualifiers, to test the team properly.
Ideally the qualifiers should have a qualifying round, where all the nonsense teams can compete for the chance to play in the qualifiers proper. Determining groups by whoever scored the most goals against Andorra is a joke.
The 2022 WC qualifiers have already started, so your post seems a bit oddly worded. I agree about the minnows in qualifying groups (Andorra and San Marino in our case) but there's also some decent teams in our group, namely Hungary and Poland. But yes, the games against the likes of San Marino are a waste of their time and ours.Ideally the qualifiers should have a qualifying round, where all the nonsense teams can compete for the chance to play in the qualifiers proper. Determining groups by whoever scored the most goals against Andorra is a joke.
Meanwhile, I hope we win tonight so that our last 16 game is at Wembley; a chance for our fans to see the team again, whatever the outcome.
