I only saw Match of the Day, not the full game, but for me the biggest positive was that it looked like our front three was finally beginning to work together again and play for each other, rather than for themselves.

Agreed they didn't partcularly shine but same with Jota I think (although he took the goal well). I'll give it a few games before forming an opinion though; no doubt they will all get plenty of game time this season. Wouldn't surprise me to see Klopp rotate a bit more to try and keep injuries down. Mane and Salah stood out and just looked glad to be back out there; very lively.

For me it's the clean sheet. We haven't had many of those last season.

For me it’s VVD and Matip coasting through 90 mins and looking good without injury

Matip in particular looked pretty effortless. I suspect he and Gomez will have plenty of motivation this season, with Konate coming in.

Great to see VAR being used properly this weekend, apart from that West Ham penalty.

City struggling with football being a contact sport again hehe

I continue to be really impressed by Saint-Maximin at Newcastle. If he continues to improve like he has over the last couple of seasons I think he'd be a good replacement for Mane.

Clarkson has done what Elliott did last year and gone on a season long loan to Blackburn. Nat Phillips and Robbo back in training with the first team today.

Good the injuries are coming back already. I guess we'll be particularly nervous about any injuries this season.

I'm not nervous. We buy players who are impervious to injury and just to make sure, our training methods and dieticians make sure of it.

Interesting article on Ben and how we have already made a 100% profit, with even more potential profit to come - especially if he DOESN'T play for us.

Bought solely to be flipped and never to be played, emergency aside?

Decent article, that. I suspect when they were looking to bring him and Ozak in, Edwards - who seems a pretty shrewd deal maker on the whole - structures deals on the basis of "if we can use him, great, if we can't, let's not lose out". Davies will be on better wages, and will have spent 6 months (apart from injury) with world class facilities, staff and players - that must still seem a pretty decent deal for him, given he was coming to the end of his contract with Preston. If he hadn't got injured, perhaps we'd have seen him at the end of last season instead of 1 of the others.

Loaning him out makes very good business sense. With the sell on clause in place, Preston must be keeping fingers crossed for him too. Footy transfers are clearly far more complex than they ever were...

Ben Woodburn is off on loan to Hearts (!) until January, with an option to extend to the end of the season.

Apparently the Woodburn loan still hasn't been finalised. A brief summary of where we are at from the Echo this morning (if you want their spammy webpages it's here:
https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/foo... )

Shaq - LFC are waiting for Lyon to come back with an offer closer to their valuation of £12m. He continues to have other potential suitors.
Origi - several teams from home and abroad are monitoring but no offers
Nat Phillips - Southampton are interested but no offer yet
Neco Williams - nobody has come in for him

Loans Out
Ben Davies - to Sheffield United with a £500,000 loan fee being paid. LFC get another £500,000 if they are promoted.
Sepp van den Berg - to Preston North End
Leighton Clarkson - to Blackburn Rovers
Adam Lewis - to Livingston.
Woodburn - not finalised but to Hearts all being well

Karius now in the last 12 months of his deal - speculation he may go back to Germany.
Sheyi Ojo also in the final year of his contract. A loan departure is not out of the question.

Sold so far:
Kamil Grabara (£3m),
Liam Millar (£1.3m),
Marko Grujic (£10.5m),
Taiwo Awoniyi (£6.5m)
Harry Wilson (£12m)

Man maths hat on. So that is the Konate fee recouped. I highly doubt the fees for Shaq and Origi leaving will be enough to cover a bid for Lewandowski.

Sadly not with Bayern sticking a tag of over 100m on him, no. FSG would never sanction anything like that for a 32 year old hehe

He's 33 on Saturday. Not sure anyone would pay that kind of money. £60m and a guarantee that you get into latter stages of CL for next couple of seasons, may ease the financial pain. We came mighty close to playing Europa Conference football last season.

Isn't going to happen (transfer) but one can dream.
