This isn't about trophies this is about money - if we offered £150k a week he'd stay - the trophy line is a very convenient PR get out.
Not when City are offering 195k we won't... We'd probably need to offer something like £250k to compensate for money plus less chance of winning stuff/ no CL football etc.Edited by NRS on Monday 22 June 08:38
We all know if £150k was offered 3 months ago there would be no Sterling issues and the little turd would have kept his head in the game and delivered more than the mediocre performances he did.
As it is he typifies all that is wrong with football players now- he was given many chances, developed and dare I say it kinda owes the club more respect than he showing.
He may be potentially very very good but he doesn't want to play for Liverpool and so I have no issue if he leaves.

Are we now allowed to use the word 'turd' again to describe someone we don't like at the club? Fairs fair and all that ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Of course young man but don't wear it out (there are a lot of players that are either a turd or play like a turd)![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Oh yes, Sterling is a

If BR wanted away and put us to ransom then yes you could call him a turd.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Only joking mate. I'm remaining excited by some of the players we're 'monitoring'. Not for one minute do I believe we'll do an Everton and not sign a single one of them and is nothing more than good marketing....

Anyone have any news on new back room staff yet?

So he's an attacking midfielder/second striker. If we sign him I really can see Lallana becoming nothing more than a squad filler. Unless we line up with Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana behind Sturridge. If that's the plan I don't think we'll see a high profile striker bought in and we'll stick with what we have. Actually think Mario in a 4231 would suit him better.
Its the 2 behind that worries me. Can needs to play to develop. He has more going for him defensively than Henderson or Milner. He needs to line up next to Henderson or Milner. A central midfield partnership of Henderson and Milner imo isn not defensively strong enough. Particularly with 4 very attacking players in front.

Ideally I'd like to see us play 433 or 4312. Unfortunately it doesn't seem that we're buying players for this.
I still think that
Coutinho
Sturridge Mario
Would be a very strong front 3. But the players we're buying seem to be to play a different formation. It would be silly to have Lallana and Firminho compete with Coutinho for the same position.

Firmino would be a great signing.
Sounds like he would be a great buy, and the kind of player we could show intent by going for. The problem is I am in agreement with RT: he is probably the type of player we need least (apart from him finding the net more than some of our other attacking midfield options anyway). Don't know much about him, but seems to be similar to PC. That said if he plays as well as he looks and gets quite a few goals I will be very happy to effectively swap Sterling for him and £20M or so extra cash if the deals go for the rumored prices. From what I've seen of Firmino is that he's more of a Suarez type player - the Suarez that we bought, not sold. A very good forward, can play any of the front three and as striker. Wouldn't compete with PC - I think we'd look to play him as striker, or as partner to Sturridge, occasionally as one of the three behind. Very much as we did with Suarez.

That's EXACTLY what I wanted to say about him... but likening anyone to Luis is always going to be risky given how good he was. Firmino seems to play on the right of a front 3 in a 4231. Bacca is a proper striker and needs a move. Hopefully we get both and just shows imo why we shouldn't overpay for premier league players from mid table teams. Just lazy scouting. Clyne in the last year of his contract would be a good buy if we can get him for 10 or 12 million. Hopefully, Moreno will have a better season too.
I still can't see a formation that accommodates all of these players though. Lallana becomes a squad player, same with either Milner or Henderson. Ings simply doesn't figure if we get Bacca. Lovren is a 20 million pound luxury. Lazer is nowhere and as for Origi and Mario...
The only positive I take is that we seem to be in for better players. The failure of last summers signings will take another season or two to work its way through before we're left with a formation and strategy that works for us. I expect Mr Rodgers, if he is to make the most of what he has at his disposal, to work out at least 2 best 11s that he plays depending on the opposition, either a 433 or a 4312. He can then start to move on those that haven't worked at the end of next season. Regardless, he needs to be delivering results from the start of the season else he might not last that long.
Interesting times for a Liverpool supporter. If we bring in Firmino, Bacca and Clyne and add them to Ings, Origi and Milner, with what he already has, the pressure is on Mr Rodgers to set up the team to deliver. There's enough good players in his squad not to get slapped 6-1 at Stoke again.
