I had said a few times over the past months that I'm very confident he will stay, after RVP's comments to the BBC on match of the day it looks like my confidence was misplaced.

Other than directly saying 'I'm off' could he have dropped a bigger hint that he's likely to leave than saying "I have been here for 8 years whatever happens I will always love the club".

It wasn't only those words either, his body language, tone, everything pointed to someone who has more or less decided to leave. He could easily have given a more generic answer, or not answered the question. I think his choice of words and the way he delivered them spoke volumes.

If he does leave, do not blame Robin, any footballer will always put his personal, and professional interest's before the club's. Blame Wenger, Gazidis and the board.

Pay on par with other world class players and the right additions would have kept him here, if we can't deliver either we can't expect to keep a player of his quality, especially when he is fast approaching 30, has won nothing with us, and will be very unlikely to win anything with us unless there is a managerial and/or ownership change which we can only speculate on.

It's sad to say but at the moment our best chance of keeping Robin is probably his wife persuading him to stay in London because of their family life.

At least Almunia's contract has finally expiredsmile
Playing devil's advocate. If you're RVP and about to negotiate the last big contract of your career you presumably wouldn't want to appear too keen....

That's the figure I reckon it would take the Arsenal board to off him frown.

Can't see it myself, we got £30m for Fabregas when he was only interested in moving to Barcelona. Juventus and Man City have both expressed interst in RVP and it wouldn't take much to get Barca or Real Madrid sniffing round, we'd easily get more for him should the worst happen.

+1 - A decent Champs league run is worth £25M + & you won't get one without RVP. I'd be astonsished if he was let go that little. Having said that, he is 28 so at the other end, it would be a bit bonkers to pay £30M + for him scratchchin

You realise he is about to go into the last year of his contract and can negotiate from January and effectively bank most of that £20m himself in addition to wages ? You know, the kind of deal you did with Sol Campbell.

If he doesn't sign he'll be sold - no way will Arsenal let him run down his contract . . . is there ?

True is that. Also why its unlikely anyone is going to pay £30+M for him I s'pose.

TBH, with CL football guaranteed next year, I would hope he will stay at Arsenal.

(and to the best of my knowledge, Sol Campbell never signed for United wink )

I'm a Spud and I find that figure hilarious. He may be 28 but is there a better striker in Europe outside of Barca or Real?

Sorry - was directed at Arsenal fan comments that they'd need '£25m and then some' to let him go.

Really? He's still got a good five seasons in him if he can avoid injury IMO, he's worth £40m at least!

I think there'll be a lot to be leant from this meeting he's having with Wenger, I'm sure he just wants assurances that we're going to buy some decent players, if he decides he wants out we all know what that means... If they got a big fee, they'd have to go against our usual transfer policy and spend the whole lot to replace him.

bangheadbanghead Not when he is out of contract in less than 12 months and will then still have a good 4 seasons left in him.

eg Did you pay the £12m for Chamakh or wait a year ?

Personally I really hope Arsenal spend to satisfy his ambition.

So how much do you reckon he's worth then?

Nasri was how much, £20m ? Inflated because both Utd and City wanted him but he will still be worth something in 4/5 years time due to his age.

RVP on the other hand is a better player but no resale value. I'd say £20m was about right. Obviously this is based on his contract situation.

Hope he stays though and Arsenal invest in some proven performers rather than potential.

Well the right comaparison is Nasri I suppose....he went for £25mil to City with Man U apparently also keen....they perhaps were looking at £20mil.

Nasri had a great season and is (and this hurts me to say it) a very talented player but RVP he isn't....against that he'll still be worth something in five years time whereas RVP won't be.

Having said all that it was really only the two Manchester clubs looking for Nasri whereas I think it's safe to say that all the major Italian and Spanish clubs in addtion to City, Chelsea and Man U would all love to get their hands on him.

So I think Nasri is worth well ovr £30mil...someone will pay that for him.

I reckon he signs and stay for a year....then makes a move abroad.

Van Persie is 29, I think realistic price would be £30 million, so around £5 million more than Nasri.

Robin has always been an injury prone player prior to this season, I don't think he will play into his late thirties so this is realistically his last contract at the top level of football.

I see the point about him not wanting to appear to keen going into negotiations but am not sure he needs to or was playing mind games on MOTD. I think sadly his statement was genuine. It's interesting that before the season ended he did not say much or what he did saw seemed a lot more positive. I got the feeling now that 3rd was secure, he was could be a bit more honest.

He holds all the cards here, he's the player of the year, season's top scorer, our captain, arguably our only true world class player and also our highest profile player in terms of commercial revenue. I don't think he needs to appear like he's not too keen so he can get a little more £££ out of us.

I second that, was thinking the same thing this morning. But I doubt he'll go for well more than £30m

I read in the Telegraph just now that Bentdner missed the coach to the ground for Sunderland's game against Man U. He had to get a taxi to the stadium and was told to sit in the stands.....hadn't picked up on that before. He really is an utter, utter gobste. If Arsenal manage to find anyone to pay more than £5mil for him I'll be stunned.

Bendtner's a total waste of space, the sooner we get rid of him the better.

I can't think of another player that's so delusional about his own ability and standing in football.

Bendtner
Vela
Park
Denilson
Squilachi
Diaby
Chamakh
Arshavin

Who do you think Wenger will be able to move on?

If he was able to sell even half of those players we would free up so much of the wage bill for Robin's new deal and other signing's.

Don't forget Alumnia whose deal has expired. On a guesstiamte based on what I have read some of those players are earning before I reckon there is £25mil in wages there or £500k a week yikes In theory those players should easily be worth £30 mil but with the daft wages they're on that's an optimistic number.
