Exactly - you dont hear UTD fans complaining that they had Di Maria/Falcao on the bench last year -
Or City with Dzeko, Bony etc
We need a big squad if we want to compete for top 4
I am also not passing judgement on our transfer window when it only opened 7 days ago - I can see quite a bit more movement yet.
As for passing on rumours, that is fine but you passed on a rumour then questioned our transfer policy on the back of it - that just stupid
I can still see at least 4 more players leaving - Borini will be off next, I do think Mario will be shipped out (prob on loan with option to buy), Ricky, Enrique, and maybe a couple of others (Raheem being 1)
I think he would like to turn Can into a Matic type player

I don't know about others, but I feel pleased we have some depth this year. League, two domestic cups, and Europa league would be impossible with our recent times approach of 12-14 good players and then just pack in the youth.
I'm still a bit confused about Benteke. I wonder if it's because he realises when we came so close two years ago we simply didn't have a plan b, and maybe Benteke can offer that somehow. I think we need more of a Van Nistlerooy type player really. Target men like Benteke don't work for us - Andy Carrol anyone ?

Do you not think that Mr Rodgers has just too many players to pick from & is uncertain of how best to utilise his talented squad for the best ?
It certainly looks this way from the outside looking in.
This has to be trolling - there is no possible way you could suggest such a thing before a ball has even been kicked?!It certainly looks this way from the outside looking in.
I'm sure some on here just want to argue rather than talk about Liverpool or football.
fk me it's not even August yet !

YES! I think that was half the problem last year, he just didn't know his best starting 11. certainly results improved when he settled on a side making a few changes rather than changing 5-6 players each game.It certainly looks this way from the outside looking in.

Jeez what is it with this thread, you are all speculating as to what system Mr Rodgers may decide to play with all kinds of elaborate systems & formations, You have loads of good players meaning some will not make the best starting XI .

For once I agree with the learned gentleman. Seriously chaps, just because the club will be buying players you can't see fitting in the team doesn't mean BR has no clue how to fit them in. And its far better to have more players for different positions (regardless of whether you think they're mediocre or not).I'm sure some on here just want to argue rather than talk about Liverpool or football.

We're signing players and improving the squad. Let's be happy about that and try and be positive until proven otherwise.
Exactly. How someone can say that it looks like BR is uncertain at how best to utilise his players, when it is early July and he isn't even close to picking his first pre-season team yet?!!
BR - if you're not trolling, please enlighten us all about what specifically led you to your conclusion about BR?

Liverpool's latest offer of £6 million has been rejected by Burnley. They want £10 million. A tribunal is set to determine the price of Danny Ings. (Tony Barrett)
Just posted this in the Spuds thread, seems their bid may have stitched you up slightlyhttp://www.espnfc.com/soccer-transfers/story/25146...
Liverpool have offered around £6m for the England under-21 international, while the Clarets are looking for a fee of closer to £10m.
They accepted a bid of £12m from Tottenham for Ings in June, and that would be taken into account by a tribunal committee when setting a fee.
It means that Liverpool face the prospect of paying substantially more for the player than they had hoped.

Cheers CIE, silly me copying the post which PH trims the linkTo be fair Sye the meat of it is in what I quoted, the implication being that Spuds bid will be taken into account in the tribunal and may mean you have to pay more than the £6m

Maybe we'll flog Lallana or moneyball style cash in on Coutinho. Mario might also leave yet.
I really hope you're wrong about Coutinho, we should be building a team around him. Not looking to cash in. Would also like to keep Lallana, feel like his best is yet to come. Mario can go, in fact if i were FSG i'd be looking to loan him out or better yet just admit defeat and sell him. If anyone would take him that is. type-r said:
This part is BS - Spurs did this solely and knowingly that Ings wanted to go to Liverpool, therefore skew the tribunal fee unfairly, allegedly of course.
Just as that report above says the Spurs bid would be taken into account by the tribunal - a few weeks ago there was a report about it which said any Spurs bid would NOT be taken into account. Who knows?Moneyball as a concept is what exactly?
I've not said I want to see Coutinho sold, I don't think anyone has.
And Sye, my reflections on our transfer policy isn't based on a rumour. It's based upon 3 years of signings.
I'd much rather see a manager with a clear ideology and buy players that fit. Mr Rodgers seems to have a preference for a 433 where the front 3 are fast, mobile, press and interchange positions. It's pretty much a reason why we often played last season with 3 strikers on the bench and none on the pitch. My opinion is that Benteke does not fit that style of play.
I also think the criticism of Mr Rodgers not knowing who his best 11 are is fair. In fact I'd say last season he didn't even know what his preferred formation was nor which player suited what position.
Of course I'm pleased that we're attracting talent and have a much stronger squad. I'm doubtful that Mr Rodgers knows how to mould these players, old and new, into a winning team.
