Arsenal finished 2nd and were in the running to win the league on final day + won Community Shield + got to quarter finals of Champions league. United finished the season 8th + won FA Cup and didn't make it out the group stage in Champions league.

Not sure whether that really is more successful!

I’d still like to see what he could with a first choice back line all season. That first half difference was night and day.
I think putting it down solely to personnel takes credit away from the tactical changes Ten Hag has made.

If we'd played say Maguire and Lindelof in this 4-6-0/4-4-2 formation I think we'd concede less over a season than if we played Varane and Martinez in the bonkers 4-1-5 we've played for most of this season.

Obviously Martinez is our best CB and him coming in strengthens us (would be daft to argue otherwise), but the change of system made such a difference. We've had other games where Martinez has played and we've been poor defensively due to playing the old system.

I’m in no way saying it would have cured all our woes this year, everyone has injuries. I’d just like to see how different it would be with some consistency.

Fabulous finish if that's his last game.
Probably still moan and say he needs to go…

Tactical masterclass today and what a difference it makes having your two best central defenders fit and playing. That was a performance just like last season.

If we sack EtH then we need our heads seeing.

Great performance, City didn't really get going. Super pleased to have won but nothing's changed. Needs a change of manager.

Didn’t winning the FA Cup save SAF back in the late 80’s?

Looking back in players careers, is winning silverware more important?

Yep. No one will really remember coming second, not winning things. It's impressive, but it's about winning. We've managed it against the odds today, it will be remembered for a long long time.

Also, BBC interviewers, just let him enjoy it ffs.

As someone who has never won any silverware in my life, it is categorically more important than coming 4th.

I have never come 4th, neither.

Fantastic result and well played match - such a shame Spurs didnt score that open goal against city and then they would have won nothing!

Is the Community Shield not considered silverware these days?

Clutching at straws scratchchin

That was what I call a gutsy UTD performance in more than just name. Tactics were just right and we did a job on them. Very satisfying to watch.

Be a very interesting 48 hours me thinks…..

out of curiosity, now that we just relegated Newcastle from Europe (hehe) and Chelsea into the conference league, how much will that have cost them? Be a real shame if their leaking of the Ten Hag crap is what galvanised us into the result. And by shame, I mean hilarious dose of Karma.

Should give him 1 season while they sort out behind the scenes. No one new is going to walk in and make massively difference yet till that's sorted.

And they won what exactly? Quarter finals, 2nd in the league, nobody cares.

No - it never get’s counted for anything. Great teams don’t boast about it, the only people who mention it are those trying to achieve greatness.

Edited to add - it’s one step away from trying to count the Emirates Cup biggrin
