There is a strong possibility of us not winning the Europa thingy and not making 4th either now too.
Absolutely ,a full strength squad I would fancy us but either achievement is a big task .we can fault the team in many ways but the effort and spirit is excellent ,if we achieve either target it will be through that .
The amount of injuries we get to the defence in particular really frustrates me. We have not had a consistent back line for years. Even back to Fergie time.
Shaw
Smalling
Jones
Bailly
Rojo
They all seem to get injured all the bloody time. Have any of those actually gone more than a couple of months injury free this season? Compare that to spurs and Chelsea who seek to play the same 3/4 each week!
Another point to add is how far Rooney's performances have dropped this season. Each time I've seen him he's been borderline atrocious. His touch just seems non existent.
Still quite a bit of rebuilding to do imo if we are to actually push for the title next year. We really need either pogba to step up and add goals and assist to his game or we need to sign someone who'll get us 15-20 goals and assists from midfield similar to Hazard or Alli.

You would have to go to games to understand that...
It's not a cool a comp to win when sat in the pub with your mates
All true - not saying that I wouldn't want to watch Utd in the final. But, in the cold light of day, it's simply not a prestigious tournament. It's main job is to get the team into another competition! It's not a cool a comp to win when sat in the pub with your mates

Go back to fergys last few seasons ..remember having to play carrick and fletcher at centre halves, I think we had 11 defenders and ten were injured.cannot recall last 4-5 years when we haven't had an injury crisis of some sort .Shaw

Last few years though Shaw ,smalling and jones are repeatedly injured ,brittle men that need getting rid of .

Maybe not gotten rid of, but I can definitely see a defender or two being on Jose's summer shopping list.
I would definitely get rid of Jones. His injury record is beyond a joke and he gets paid millions to get massages and go to the gym. Shaw had promise but doesn't seem interested. I would get rid of him because of that, rather than his injury record.

Absolutely not. Anyone not remember Sparky's winner? Anyone remember who we beat to get 4th a couple of years ago?
It's bks to say winning the EL is easier than finishing 4th. That's demonstrable by the fact that we are as close to 4th as winning the ECL.
I still wear my ECWC shirt from time to time... (I'm actually amazed it still fits!)It's bks to say winning the EL is easier than finishing 4th. That's demonstrable by the fact that we are as close to 4th as winning the ECL.
I don't get it.
Finishing 2nd in an extremely difficult league makes you a loser?
Winning a competition for losers makes you a winner? You've only beaten other losers. Abject losers at that.
The Europa League is worse than a 3/4th place play off, and there are no winners in those. You have to be a bad team to play innit. It's like winning the Slow Kids race at school sports day. I would rather finish 2nd in the Fast Kids race than first in a race for losers.

Not one to normally whinge at football decisions and the "penalty" won't be the reason we get relegated, but that utterly disgraceful piece of dramatics by Rashford will certainly help us on our way.
If Swarbrick had reffed the game properly he would have been sent off by half-time - a yellow for the terrible tackle on Fernandez and a yellow for the dive.
Lingaard could also have easily seen red in the first with his studs up challenge.
What with the 7 minutes added on in the 2nd half, I'm not sure what more Swarbrick could have done to help you win.
JM conspicuously quiet on the penalty decision...
Rant over .

I imagine if United had finished second and not won the FA Cup, he'd still be in a job...

Whats hard to get? If you don't win and come 2nd, you're first loser. Simple.Finishing 2nd in an extremely difficult league makes you a loser?

Do you think any top sports professional is happy coming second? If they say they are then they're lying.
My point is that Europa League isn't a real competition. You have to fail in another competition in order to qualify for it!
It is a competition for losers, and you don't become a winner by beating other losers.
Surely any decent PL team would win the Europa if they (a) were bad enough to qualify for it and (b) were desperate enough to play their first team in it? Not Liverpool, maybe...
I will be pleased if we win the cup, because a trophy is always good for the players and for maintaining a sense of progress. But it really doesn't give us any bragging rights. If Liverpool and City finish above us in the PL, we will have to show some humility, rather than banging on about a cup for losers.

We wouldn't be bragging if we finished 4th, below "Liverpool and City". It is a competition for losers, and you don't become a winner by beating other losers.

It's ultimately about getting into the CL. Either through winning a trophy or not. Either way, I don't care, but given a choice of 4th or 5th in the league, or winning a euro cup, I'd take the latter.
