First of all, I think progress is being made under Klopp – but that 2nd half last night was a setback. It was like watching the Rogers era team, especially the semi-final v Villa; were they just weren’t at the races. That suggests there are still too many weak characters in the squad.
Getting beat in a Euro final can happen, but is easier to take when you’ve been beaten by a Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, etc
Sevilla are a handy, useful but distinctly average team – however, they were made to look like world beaters in the 2nd half – and that’s what disappoints me.
I'm not that convinced that we've made that much progress yet under Klopp. We are still so unpredictable when it comes to form, and yesterday we massively lacked tactical nous in the second half; which it's hard to blame on anyone other than Klopp?Getting beat in a Euro final can happen, but is easier to take when you’ve been beaten by a Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, etc

Think of it this way, would we have won that game with Benitez in charge for the second half? I think we may well have.

Oddly the first half should have been more difficult as they played over the press. The second half they played on the deck so our game plan should have been plan A.
Their first goal changed everything. It was as if they'd gone in at half time celebrating and thinking they'd already won it.
Conceded from the kick-off and never recovered. No idea why. The Dortmund challenge was much harder and they just dug in until the 95th minute.
I can only think they thought they had it in the bag.
I don't think the players thought they had it in the bag. It's happened in a lot of games this season. Will do fantastic one game, the next people just don't turn up. I don't think it was much to do with the game in itself, just that's what this group of players have kept doing. They didn't even bother when it was clear we didn't have it in the bag after their goals.Their first goal changed everything. Who, that life long Seville supporter and former player that's lifted the cup with them previously?????I said before the game ( and on many other occasions) that if we lose it will be probably down to Mignolet or Moreno.. They are the obvious weak link in an otherwise pretty solid unit.. Had Lovren's goal been allowed we would have probably won and all would have been rosy.. Such fine margins at this level.. My only criticism towards Klopp is that he must be aware of Moreno's weakness yet he puts his faith in him, I suppose with Flanno not eligable, and Gomez injured his left back options where somewhat limited, Just hope Moreno and Mignolet are conspicuous by their absence from next season.

Fulham & Middlesbrough got to European finals with distinctly average teams.
In fact Middlesbrough probably gave Sevilla a tougher test that year than we did, that's unacceptable.
Feels like we used up all our luck in Istanbul, we've lost a final in every major competition since that night
Stevie G Vs West Ham FA Cup final... that was a year after Istanbul. In fact Middlesbrough probably gave Sevilla a tougher test that year than we did, that's unacceptable.

It is disappointing lads but at least we bloodied a few noses along the way.. Dortmund, Villarael, Man U..... For a new manager joining part way through the campaign with somebody else's squad he ain't done too bad in his first 7 months, This year we need to build on what we have and concentrate on top 4 without any Euro distractions until we are properly prepared for it, Otherwise you only end out getting turned over/ rolling over in the knockout/ early stages embarrasingly.. See Man U / Tottenham for more details.

This is spot on; Klopp alluded to as much in his post match reactions. He's worked on belief in the squad - and there have been times when that has come through (Dortmund, for example) and the team has clawed back from a position of defeat. This time that wasn't there - they were awful and disjointed in the second half and seem to have forgotten all Klopp's training from the last 8 months. Some players won't appear in the shirt again; but I suspect last night made him reconsider decisions on some of the other players and whether they have improved as much as he thought they had. Some will still be kept of course, there are some good players there. But boy, do they need some work done still.

Wasn't this liverpools worst season for 22 years?
Haven't finished lower than 8th since 1963. So about as bad as it gets.
All on Klopp's shoulders now as upper mid table is the new normal for us.
Liverpool have become Everton.
Unfortunately Everton have become Wigan.
I hope both teams from the city return to top form.

So....I like Klopp. Right manager for us 100%. But...he's had 60 (?) odd games with us so a full season and this is another Final failure for him. I do wonder if he is a very lovely organised chap but does he actually have a 'winning' mentality? I don't know but I would say that this isn't 'the players forgetting what's been taught' alone and Klopp must surely be part of the judgement.
Klopp has proved he is a winner in his career so I am hoping he carries this on eventually with us...but the longer the wait goes on and finishing lower in the league than Rodgers doesn't help, I never liked Rodgers much but he delivered more than Klopp up to yet. I am hoping with his own team/players Klopp will come good but the inconsistency has drove us all mad this season for sure.

How many games did Rogers take from Kloops season in charge?I am hoping with his own team/players Klopp will come good but the inconsistency has drove us all mad this season for sure.
I assume it was around a dozen. Would Kloop have got more points had he been in charge then?> Probbaly I would guess.
SO to be fair to him, perhaps if in charge for all 38 league games you'd have finished higher.
Despite losing last night, I think the future is looking pretty bright to be honest.... Klopp is a winner, he's proven that with BVB, and we have had some fantastic performances under him. Beating United, Dortmund & Villarral on the way to the final is no mean feat, and the performance against Villarral was probably the best I have seen the team play since Suarez went.
We lost the carling cup on a shoot out, which is always a lottery.
Point is, you have to make the finals to have the chance to win them, two with a new manager who hasn't had a full season with the team is pretty good to be honest. Next season we should have a clear run at a good league run, the benefits of not having European football are much more midweek rest, so hopefully we can capitalize on that & put a decent run together.

Good sensible post amongst all the silly doom and gloom mongers, Give Klopp time and the trophies will come... Be positive we could have LVG at the helm, At least the football is mostly good to watch as opposed to dross week after week.We lost the carling cup on a shoot out, which is always a lottery.
