A nice man who was clearly out of his depth as a manager at this level.
The perplexing bit for me is that he's been found wanting in every big job he's had;where he's been the number 1.
So why on earth did we give him the gig in the first place?
I've said it before that the main problems with the club are not at the level of the Manager, or players, but higher up and run far deeper.
Again, my concern is that getting rid of SM will not address the real issues. In exactly the way that getting rid of AP made no difference to the downwards spiral we appear to be in.
Why he gets the managers job I will never know. Like you said he has been sacked in every job bar one, and proven time after time he is not cut out for being a number 1. A good coach but nothing more. The perplexing bit for me is that he's been found wanting in every big job he's had;where he's been the number 1.

Can't see it being a winner - Belitez hasn't set the world on fire in recent years, and I'm not sure he's even been in a relegation dogfight.
Better late than never, I suppose.
Who would have been better?Better late than never, I suppose.
It's easy to dismiss, or just write-off the club completely but for me this is a very positive move. Any manager who's currently available will be tainted by past failings, and anybody who's with a club certainly wouldn't leave a job to take on a relegation dog-fight at this stage of the season.
FFS, Rafa has a 51% managerial win rate, how can that be anything other than a positive move?
I do hope that by bringing in his backroom team, (Spanish mafia) that it gives him enough support to challenge any ridiculous decisions by Ashley, Charnley and co. Im trying to temper my excitement against the reality that we are deep in the mire with a decent injury list. I really wanted to see a change through relegation but I'm now hoping this a springboard to better things. Clear the Deadwood out over summer and get 3 or 4 top signings to establish ourselves in the top half again.

Sounds like a good time for a cheeky tenner on winning the league next season** exactly which league is open to question.

Chuffed to bits... But will 10'games be enough?
It could be, the crucial three games against the other bottom four stragglers will decide our fate. If he can motivate and organise the team to win those three games we can hope for survival. Most of our other games are tough ones, but if we take the 9 points from them and pinch a win elsewhere I think we can stay up. I don't think we deserve to stay up, the stats have us exactly where we should be, right next to villa. However we have some skill in the team and they just might turn it on for the new manager. Any sort of performance or result against Leicester and they might start believing in themselves again. Bring on survival and clearing out the deadwood. I think we should sign Tino again

Who else was available? Well. I'd have gone for Moyes - I see Newcastle as a project which, if he could manage as well as he did at Everton, he'd have been well suited to.
As for Rafa's 51% win rate, that's the same as Van Gall's at Man U ..... and they're calling for his head.
I'm crossing my fingers for Monday now.

Look, it's good there's been a move. But the key is to stay up, and Benitez just isn't experienced in this sort of warfare. He might turn out to be great, but that's based on hope more than expectation.

I'm very much 'fingers crossed' too and I'd rather be having the problems Man Utd are having now than we are. Moyes would have been my other preference too, but I'm not convinced he's any better equipped for a relegation battle. I'd like to think that the players would have a little more respect / reverence / fear of Rafa than they would of Moyes which hopefully will translate to some 'fight' on the pitch.Who else was available? It is a refreshingly positive appointment given the second-rate managers who could have been appointed.
