Which Spurs manager of the last 30 years has been better than Harry?
1984 Peter Shreeves
1986 David Pleat
1987 Terry Venables
1991 Peter Shreeves
1993 Osvaldo Ardiles
1994 Gerry Francis
1997 Christian Gross
1998 George Graham
2001 Glenn Hoddle
2004 Jacques Santini
2004 Martin Jol
2007 Juande Ramos
2008 Harry Redknapp
Redknapp along away from being perfect but he's a lot better than we've had for a long time. I was surprised that he's improved on Jol but I feel he has.
Surely the best Spurs team in my memory (late 70's onwards) has got to be that team of Hoddle,Waddle,Ardiles with Clive Allen scoring 50 odd goals up front ? When was that mid 80's ? 1984 Peter Shreeves

This current team is definitely the best since though. But there's been some dross in between!
[quote=markh1973]The problem is that if the starting point is that an Englishman should be appointed then what is the actual list of contenders:

But why not have a Englishman when the foreigners with excellent CVs turn up, demand huge wages, then fall flat on their faces.
The current (and up and coming) crop of players aren't going to win anything, so we might as well be patriotic.
Do you think 'The Special One' could actually make England world beaters?

I never said that - I simply said that if an Englishman was the requirement then there is a limited pool to choose from. I certainly wouldn't want 'The Special One' as England manager./quote]

Do you really think that Harry, as an example, knowing what Fabio gets paid is going to accept any less money?

The huge wages paid to Capello and his foreign predecessor Sven Goran Eriksson have been a constant source of irritation to many FA powerbrokers, especially given England’s under- achievement in major tournaments.
The FA high command, who won’t select Capello’s successor until after Euro 2012, have already had internal talks over an appropriate salary structure for the manager that will be a lot more incentive-based in future.

What experience does Harry bring to the table, he guided spurs from relegation, started very poorly in the CL, then spanked both Milan clubs, came up short against Madrid, then played poorly in the Europa League, which he has no respect for... Overall he did nothing special. [/footnote]
Started poorly in the CL?? Spurs lost only 1 game, to reigning champions Inter then went on to schwarz993 said:
Started poorly in the CL?? Spurs lost only 1 game, to reigning champions Inter then went on to beat thrash them at home and then eliminated Milan. Losing in the QF to Real is nothing to be ashamed of, the players admittedly let the occasion get to their heads. He only selected kids for the Europa, which he (rightly) saw as a distraction from the league, where Spurs sit second and have amassed a huge points per game ratio. I think he still has a way to go in terms of setting up a team defensively, but get real and give the guy some credit.
Give him some credit? I have acknowledged his strengths, but the negatives outweigh them I'm afraid. VXRuss said:
This I don't understand.
Why would you stop supporting your country if Redknapp manages them, seems a little odd?
Even if i despised the guy, it would never stop me supporting my country, I personally would love to see Harry in there, a great people motivator and always seems to do well, better than some idiot Italian who doesn't speak a word and doesn't have a clue what his best team is or ever has been.
I was exaggerating slightly. Why would you stop supporting your country if Redknapp manages them, seems a little odd?

However, I couldn't support the manager after all he's a crook who has almost bankrupted several clubs wi very little success
Good luck to Harry if he decides he wants to be the new England boss
Can't stand Cappello & have not watched england since the last world cup debacle but he has got us through & he deserves the chance to shine in this years Euro's
Do we really need a full time england manager ? apart from go to games & leave 20 minutes early , WTF does an England Manager do ? £6m a year we are paying that knob
I do however think HR is the ideal man to become our nations football boss
