F1 drivers work a lot harder than a footballer. 90 mins kicking a ball around compared to all the practice, testing, racing, training, media, sponsorship comitments etc... some of these footballers are injured for weeks on end or sat on the bench. Getting paid £50k a week to not play football is bonkers.
Stupid statement. Footballers play just 90 minutes a year do they? You don't think they also do practice, training, media, sponsership comitments?

Beaten to it! Next, we will have people convinced that footballers aren't fit and they are all over weight.

At least footballers are paid for their trade skills, unlike a lot of F1 drivers who have to pay their way into the sport because of lack of ability wink

Where did I say 90 mins a year? some would actually play 90 mins a year if they were injured and warming the bench! all footballers do media do they? I doubt that very much.

Is it impossible that all supporters for 2 weeks did a boycott of home games? Soon, if not already your average working class man will not be able to watching the team he has supported all his life.
Boycott your prem team and go and see your nearest other division team for a month (in my case Tranmere) would be a better idea if your not a season ticket holder BUT as I know for LFC Thomas Cook will take any spare capacity, throw a pasty in the mix and call it corporate hospitality then all sorts of "fans" buy them. i should know as the 4 seats to my left are Thomas Cookers paying £250+ per seat and most are going to a game for the first time!!

Good idea but the working fan isny powerfull enough anymore.

90 mins kicking a ball around compared with what sounds like a full seasons work?

Ok it could have been worded better. Only a handfull of F1 drivers in the world are paid the big bucks compared to hundreds maybe even thousands of footballers. Its a very poor comparison.

Well good on Messi for opting to stay with Barca for a slightly less 'disgusting amount' still making him the highest paid player and not having to live in the sthole that is Anzhi. What a hero.
Sadly there are many players that have and will move to Anzhi just to add unspendable sum on to their pay packs.

The difference between being paid by Barca and Anzhi is that a lot of Barca's money has been generated by the club. Anzhi is just a Russians plaything.

Say 50% of the F1 grid is paid big bucks, do you believe that 50% of pro footballers are on that kind of money?

I was chatting to an exec of a milk-drinking league 2 side and asking about the prices as they are a little steep for a league 2 side compared to when another local team when they were in the premiership could charge the same

his arguement was that there was so much money from sponsorship and tv money coming in the tickets would have little effect on the income

but the fact these top 5-6 clubs can put the prices so high shows IMO how little regard they have for their fans.
Rob Heyes? He wouldn't know his ass from his elbow. I would attend said club every week if they price was right but I won't pay the prices they want for a ground with hardly any weather cover and poor facilities.

Do you think football would survive without the atmosphere created by the normal fan though Dave? I dont, the corporates would not be interested, I think they like the noise created by the 'normal' fans, its part of the day out for them. How many times to you see them not watching the game and just watching the kop and taking photos?

Without these for me the game just would not exist as it does today, as soon its going to get to a point where the grounds are dead.

Germans do it right, but like digikal has said they have safety standing (double the amount of fans) to compensate for the loss in ticket prices.

Clubs and agents?
On the spurs thread there's a story that a new signing is getting 20K a week. Why would either the club or an agent feel the need to tell the press what he's on?

Most businesses don't make a habit of telling the world the salaries of each employee.
Because they do.

That's because there are millions more football players than racers in the world.

Please accept my sincerest apologies on behalf of my club for that.

Especially as £51 is a hurrendous amount to pay to watch your team lose away...
no problem! always enjoy Norwich away and we have been turned over many a time at Carrow Road. I believe the vile Glazers also charge £51 for our away section?

Football has always been awash with cash in relative terms.

Look at a club like Charlton in the 30s. 80K fans a week, say paying an average of a shilling each, that's £4K. Every other week. What happened to it? You could buy a house in London for £500. The players were on about £2/week, there was only a couple of coppers on duty and it certainly never went on ground improvements. It went straight into the pocket of the chairman.

Now vast amounts of money generated by football goes to the players, which is exactly where it should go. They're the providers of the entertainment, they reap the rewards. Good for them I say.

Not all F1 drivers are paid a fortune...some actually have to pay for a drive.

Nope but there must be someone? FACEBOOK/FORUMS/YOUTUBE - are always good free advertising? I think someone would need to put something together as to why we are doing and why they should do it...

I honestly believe with the right press behind it this would work. Fans need to take a stand against prices before it becomes to late.

but thats what the lower leagues is - without a well off set of fans to pay in and low capacity they have to be competitive somehow.

they're priced what is the average for league two. give a few seasons even rovers tickets will begin to suffer.

Yes but there's how many F1 drivers earning that much compared to your average footballer? I'd also think there's more skills involved in F1 compared to kicking a ball around a field.

Some players don't even deserve the pay with their lack lustre performance and childish behaviour.
The skill thing is entirely subjective. Can't possibly compare.

Childish behaviour? You mean like spinning up your wheels in front of the Aussie police on a public road? Come on. Plenty of footballers are idiots - but that doesn't really distinguish them from the rest of the world.
