They've all sold big players at some point in years past, and all will continue to do so, if the money is too good to turn down, or the player shows that they simply aren't committed to the club anymore.
Liverpool sold Suarez and likely will sell Coutinho, Spurs sold Bale and Modric, and I'd bet they'd sell Kane if RM/Barc etc put £150+m on the table, Chelsea have sold key players and will probably sell Hazard in the summer.
While I think we are indeed crap in respect of the transfer market, in either bad or poor decision making, or buying selling wrong players, we are not the only ones flogging the family silver. Our problem is plan B when we do so, and we have bigger issues than our crap transfer policies!
I thought once Arsenal got into the new stadium and it was payed off we would be mixing it with the top end. That all went tits-up when Silent Stan took over and became head honcho in 2011, but its was a nice little 'lie' to keep trotting out to the fans year after year after that point.
As long as Silent Stan remains in control of the club, I don't believe we will ever win the PL again, let alone winning the CL.
I have accepted that 3rd-6th is where we are for the foreseeable future, with the possibility of League Cup, FA Cup and possibly a Europa League win at best to provide any silverware.

What's been really, really st is that they have run a conservative balance sheet with at any one time £100mil plus of spare cash/rainy day money sat in the bank account. 5 years ago that would have bought you Aguero, Hazard and Sanchez plus a biut left over. Now it buys you 2/3 of Dembele.
Anyway...in shocking new Chelsea are favourites to win tonight. That's depressing....and probably right.
We've only overtaken you in the last couple of years, mainly from the sale of Suarez and not having to pay so much interest on debt.

Arsenal outspent Liverpool over the two years by £27M. Although Liverpool spent £110M more than Arsenal, the Merseyside club also recouped $137M more. There is a similar pattern in the costs relating to transfers within the financial statements.
Deducting the profit generated from player sales and loans from amortization costs Liverpool incurred a net cost of £35M (Amortization £131M less player profit £96M). In Arsenal’s case, the “net cost” was £79M (Amortization £114M less player profit £35M).
This seems to be counter to what might be expected. Essentially, Liverpool showed better overall financial results by being willing to sell players to fund a bigger transfer pot. The downside to this is the amortization costs will climb into the future and necessitate either a greater level of core profitability and/or the continued sale of players.
Liverpool's strategy is built on two key assumptions - transfer values will continue to escalate as will revenue.
Selling players can boost short-term profit; buying players allows costs to be deferred over a number of years.

That’s what I find odd about arsenal - why is Kroenke letting 150m of player value walk out the door for nothing at the end of the year? At least we will have the sense to give up on Coutinho and take the massive pile of cash and buy a replacement Glassman said:
