Our midfield was uncharacteristically AWOL which left the backline somewhat exposed. Dembele is great but he can't do it all himself.

Unlike some of my fellow fans I'm not convinced about Sanchez yet. He's often out of position having gone too far up the pitch and dived in to tackle and missed, his pace rescues him mostly (bit like Kyle Walker in that respect) but we really need some stability back in the spine of the team. Last year the back four and central midfield picked itself but with the comings and goings of personnel and the injuries we're just a bit too unsettled for my liking.
I feel the same way, he has potential but currently his positioning is often terrible, pushing too far up and leaving acres of space behind him. On Saturday it was made worse by the fact that our whole defensive line seemed to catch this disease, you could have driven a bus through the gaps in our defense. City played at least 5 or 6 very simple balls right through the middle of our defense leaving them one on one with Loris and it was just their poor finishing that didn't make the scoreline embarrassing.

Someone said we played too deep, I thought the exact opposite, we were playing way too high. Were we trying to squeeze them up or play the offiside? Whatever it was it didn't work, wrong tactics and wrong team selection IMO. I know some people don't like a bad word said against Poch but that's twice he's got it completely wrong against City.

That was me. Apart from the first 20 mins in the second half we failed to press them or play with any energy and we were way too deep which was stretching the team out and leaving big gaps in the midfield. Alli often picking the ball up just outside the D of the penalty area was a sure sign to me that something wasn't right. The team wasn't playing as a unit it was disjointed. So you were getting situation where the backline goes too deep, the midfield gets spread out with Dembele isolated trying to stop the onslaught and giving space for the likes of KdB to exploit, Sanchez comes forward from the defence on his own on a banzai to tackle someone, misses them and the three remaining defenders are flat with a big gap between them and through goes the killer pass.

VAR hits a new low, it's almost as if they're doing it badly on purpose.

That's an old rumour from last year isn'it it? With the mocked up stadium with the old design west entrance.

I agree with the concept of VAR but not the execution. It needs to be developed more. When goal line technology came in it was perfect because a decision is made almost instantly. I know the circumstances are different, but decisions with VAR have to be taken a LOT quicker.

(and for the obvious joke)

I guess the Chelsea and City fans will have to watch from home then.

The refs would turn up to find a note saying the away team tried to turn up but no one was in so they've been left next door.
