A decent cheap alternative when Bruno isn’t at the races?

He's on a free and we need bodies in midfield, seems like a no brainer to me, 5 subs next season as well, perfect player to replace Bruno in a match and unpick a defence, I'd be for it personally

Not a good move for me. I want to see us build a team for the future, not do what Jammy has said. He would have been a great signing when he left Spurs, but not now. Obviously he could turn into a world beater for us, but realistically how long will he be with us. I want to see an end to the older player joining us in their career twilight years. I’m sure someone will tell me that he’s only young, but he’s got a rather significant medical issue that will limit how long he can play for.
We can’t just have a team of youngsters and we need some experience in the side too, which he has plenty of. If Bruno gets injured, who replaces him? Mata has gone, Pogba has gone, Donny wasn’t impressive (although that could change under EtH), Mejbri isn’t ready, Rashford can’t, Sancho can’t and Fred can’t. We need cover there and Eriksen gives us that. He’s the ideal candidate to come in for 2/3 seasons while we work things out imo.

Just an opinion, like I said he may turn out to be a world beater for us. It’s just not the sort of signing I want us to be making. If he’s back-up then it makes more sense, but I really hope we’re going to give people a chance, especially DVB.

It doesn’t excite me but I think it would be a good signing if he signs ,spurs though may be more familiar to him .

I guess on a free there's not much of a risk.

Not really, he replaces Mata and Lingard in the squad, sub for Bruno, in a window where we need 4-5 players it's not a bad shout imo

Apparently trained at Ajax when recovering as well so knows ETH

Spot on. He’d replace Mata’s experience and good vibes in the squad really nicely.

Really? You’re comparing the two? Just the 100 million pound difference…

Yeah but it’s much less net because of the money they are getting for Mane. That’s how Numez is being painted as a good deal. A veritable bargain in fact.

Whether he does or not, we’re definitely playing for higher-stakes with Erikson as per the post earlier. Clearly.

No issue with Eriksen if he signs. Free transfer, only 30 years old. Yes had medical issues but seems to be ok now,

Excellent on the ball, creative, and has a fantastic delivery. Seems like a no brainier, when we need bodies in midfield

Probably best to wait for the details to play out.

If we get 40 for Mane, Nunez costs 24M. What did you get for Mata or Lingard?

If we pay Nunez 100k/week and you pay 200k/ week for Eriksen over 4 years it’s the same cost.

Of course one, either or both might be a massive success which negates any cost premium

What you’re getting for Mane is irrelevant to the deal for Nunez because he’s going anyway and you could just trouser the cash. It’s like us saying Eriksen costs a net -£30m because we sold Beckham. It’s not related unless it’s a part-ex swap between the same clubs.
My overall point is that even though I would have liked him at our place, it’s a lot of money (and a large amount of your budget I’d imagine) to spend on a young lad who’s only played in a lesser league. Even as an older player, Eriksen’s already proved himself at the highest level.

Let's say Nunez doesn't work out, even a fairly mediocre premier league striker seems to be worth £25m now, let alone in 2 years hes 24 and still has international pedigree, so he's worth let's say £30m, he's sold and we take a £30m hit and £100k a week for a few seasons. Thats normal business for so many clubs let alone one with our revenues, so not really a house breaking gamble.

No one is calling the finances a gamble.

If his wages are true then and if he works out, hopefully he won’t, then RM et al will be all over him. It’s the one good season that’s the gamble.

Agreed on that

I guess linking this deal with Mane out depends on whether we would have bought Nunez if he and Salah had signed new deals (I suspect not) and whether the 64 was inflated because Benfica knew we had c.40 coming in for Mane.

Comparing a like for like replacement with deals 15 years apart is a bit disingenuous.

I think Eriksen is an odd signing but if viewed as free and he plugs a temporary gap it makes sense

We’ve lost 3 attacking midfielders this week in Pogba lingard and Mata. Good squad addition Eriksen. Mata was heavily involved towards the season close once Pogba decided he wasn’t playing anymore.
