I think you are right, this is a poor league apart from Liverpool, so top 4 would be achievable. Surely the experience of European football would help the players develop and assist in attracting better players to the side. There would be riots in Madrid if the manager said they were working to challenge in 2 or 3 years for the big competitions.
We are 2-3 years of challenging, but that does not mean we should be content with finishing 5th. As you say, there advantages to playing in the CL. Other key advantages include attracting good new players and maintaining international brand image...two things that the club should care deeply about.

Don’t expect anything ,the objective is a 2-3 year project .
The frustration is how poor the league is means we actually should and could finish top 4 ,but with a thinner squad and probably our 3 best players out with long term injuries it makes things more difficult .

I have to agree and have been banging the 2 years drum.

We aren’t Madrid though and I’ve said all along Ole is here because fans will be patient with him. Woodward much less so.

This is of course is what it feels like to be a normal football fan of course. 20 years of constant success is far from the norm.

You've been 2-3 years off challenging for about five years now. Liverpool were saying that throughout the 90, 00s and most of the 10s ...

Such are the financial benefits of a successful club, taking the hit of no CL footy will cost of course, but shouldn't affect you that much, but in terms of getting the best players and bringing the youth through, it might.

I can't see Ole leaving at least before the end of the season - will be interesting to see if he is still there in August. Wouldn't surprise me if he is.

I know we have a striker issue (so do England Kane, Rasford, Abraham!) but surely midfield is our biggest issue at the moment? Where are those stats about where our goals come from a few pages back?

Why isn’t Fernandes signed up already?

Because ed woodward is obviously the son of a liverpool supporting mum and a City supporting Dad.

We are fking hopeless upfront and fking hopeless in midfield. Hard to say which is worse. Both in desperate need of new blood.

If we end up signing him for 30 million but not Fernandes for 55 million (Euros) then Ole can fk right off along with his policy to only buy British players. It's obvious what we need.
Pretty much sums up your recruitment, 30m for 16 year old 'wonder kid'

Think we paid 1.6m for our English 'wonder kid' (Elliot) who had already played premiership games at 16..

Your scouting team and Woodward need to be looked at..

I’m not sure I’ve seen a footballer with a worse shot than Fred.
Shame because he really has turned his game on in the last 5-6 weeks.

We look like we could play against Burnley for a week without scoring. Not even a sniff of a chance.

Anyone seriously think we don’t desperately need a striker and a midfielder? Like pay anything desperate? That desperate.

Everyone needs a striker now - Kane out, Abraham out, Vardy suspected hamstring tonight.....Liverpool still have 3 + Origi though, just greedy.
