Anyone know when Lanzini & Ried are likely to be fit?
Lanzini was meant to be out for the season, but some reports a few weeks back said he was well ahead of schedule and is already back in the gym. Happy to wait until he is 100% to be honest, rather than do the West Ham thing of rushing someone back, they have a few terrible games, before a recurrence of the injury...

Serious question from those that go, I only watch on the telly, but would Reid get back in the team? The centre backs seem to be clicking nicely now so from my perspective he'd only be cover on the bench. Sadly at just 30 his career may be pretty well over.

I go to the occasional game but long since relinquished a ticket! But from what I do see Diop seems a shoo-in now so its a case of who gets the other spot. Is Reid a better foil than Balbuena? We would have to see how Reid plays when he comes back, in his pomp he was pretty solid at the back, got lots of blocks in etc. He could well have lost pace and physicality...

Not at the moment, no; although I suspect that hanging onto Diop is going to be difficult.

Reid's contracted at WH until 2023(!).

I would like to think Reid will get bored of sitting on the bench and we still get a decent fee for him. If I remember correctly we bought him for something like a few million after NZ had a cracking world cup (again from memory I think he scored!) and has been a brilliant buy for the years we have got out of him. I think he signed that contract when he was fit and playing well with Arsenal sniffing around, but 2023 that is crazy!

That''s a very good point.
Wouldn't be surprised if he got pissed bench warming once he's back and decides to hop off ( literally!) at the end of the season. Would be a shame but there's no way he'd unseat the two auto picks now.

Wilshere unavailable for the weekend, a news update I am sure we will hear time and again before next May! All too predictable unfortunately frown

Between Wilshere and Carrol you do seem to like buying a sick note.

Benni McCarthy! Although he was just fat, rather than injured.
I also remember when we got some lad called Jenkinson on loan, sent back to Arsenal soon after crocked for the season.
Freddie Lunjberg was another who I think was a shocker.
I believe Trevor Morley was assaulted by his wife and missed a tonne of the season due to a broken eye socket haha.

Our track record really is quite bizarre and dire!

Then again, does home sickness count?

Pretty sure Unsworth was also ordered back up country by his wife?

To be fair to Jenkinson I recall that he had a decent first season (loan), came back & got crocked again early on though.

Agree with the rest though - utter ste - especially dier; waste of skin, bone & air.

Just checked & he played a season for WH, was sold to Villa, spent a month there (didn't play) & then went straight to Everton.

Ashton and Dyer could both have been amazing players but got struck down by injury. Football is emotive, so fans will direct their ire towards these players that sit on the bench or injury table earning a kings ransom, but who wouldn't do the same in their situation? Managers like Mark Hughes that bounce between clubs cushioned by huge payouts on the other hand... the man has stolen a living for years.... The ones I mainly don't have time/respect for are clowns like Carroll that would rather go to Sugar Hut or Faces than knuckle down and spend more than a month injury free.

In fairness to Dyer, although I mentioned him if you read his book his problem was a complete misdiagnosis of the cause of his recurring injuries.
He eventually went off his own back ( probably hurt himself doing it ) to get an umpteenth opinion which then found the issue in a different area.
