I totally get the perspective that at present the market for players is insane in terms of valuations. However, that's their bloody price, it doesn't seem to get through to MA et al does it?
It's like the bloke saying I bought a house for £50k in 1980 and as a result i'll only pay that today for your 6 bed detached Darras Hall pad. Ludicrous approach.

Not getting at you at all ellroy but, I don't understand why people say this. It's like the bloke saying I bought a house for £50k in 1980 and as a result i'll only pay that today for your 6 bed detached Darras Hall pad. Ludicrous approach.
There's no question that the money that changes hands for the services of footballers is obscene however, people say this as if it's a temporary blip and things will settle down. When have prices ever dropped?

Well we’re reaaaallllllyyy trying to sign, on loan, a full back from Barca.
The issue ‘is’ a work permit one.
What odds “we tried” being trotted out at about 6pm tomorrow evening?
Anyone else looking forward to the inevitable “no more business” on Sky sports at about 3pm?
Sick of their lies.
Just wondering how in this day and age in this country a pro footballer cannot get a work permit?, just wondering, can anyone explain?.The issue ‘is’ a work permit one.

On the subject of pricing, we’ve seen the value of tv rights to down a bit, for the first time ever. That’s the first domino to go if prices are seen to be too high. Pricing fans out of going to games, the list goes on if any of that gathers pace you’ll see prices fall in my opinion. Other than that it’s a relative thing. Shearer £15m? How much today that’s the point I guess, but get it wrong and Portsmouth, Leeds, SMBs....
There are set criteria for work permits, HMG sets these. One of which is a number of full international call ups, which the lad failed on. That said if we’d spoken to him a few weeks ago we’d know that and could have looked at alternatives. That, however, would show a degree of competence lacking at Barrack Road.
Ashley! Where’s the fking money you fat ?

I completely agree that fees are hugely over inflated. We pretty much saw valuations double or treble in price over a couple of months til it became the norm to spend record amounts on full backs.
However, the playing field is level if you're in the club (the premiership) as everyone is getting huge pots of cash for TV deals. Everyone else is fighting to get into it, even if it's just for a season and to get the subsequent parachute payments. The fees may go down if the money drops and I'm sure at some point it will. I just hope that someone buys the club this season if it really is for sale. Ashley is thin skinned and doesn't like criticism. Give him enough stick and vote with feet and he may get the message.
