We’ve just dismantled Barcelona, literally ripped them to shreds. Messi and Suarez, arguably the two best players in the world didn’t get a sniff. If we can’t be confident after that then maybe some of you should take up a new hobby. I am certain we will beat Spurs, my only issue is that I won’t be there to see it this time.
You're absolutely right, Ructions. After all, we Spuds have had an easy ride to the final, barely having to face anyone of note at all.

Not much point in us turning up, frankly.

I'm torn. On the one hand, yes Chelsea and City make a mockery of competition with their blatant piss taking, on the other hand my father in law is a Newcastle season ticket holder, Ashley hater and doesn't like Chelsea/City for those reasons. It'll be good fun making sure he doesn't change his tune if they go mental with the money.
I would be torn in those circumstances. I've been quite sure for a long time "footy isn't what it used to be". Then some of the performances this season have been out of this world; players like Robertson and Trent have restored my faith a bit that it's not all about how much you spend. And I found the Barca comeback affected me almost as much as Istanbul in 2005... But if we ended up with a "money no object, just buy the expensive players" owner, that would be the nail in the coffin for me I think. FSG have money but we've had to sell to buy, too. And improvements have to be seen to be economically viable, at least.

laugh

Starting to get excited about Saturday now... plans are made... off to my mates (who I've watched every ECL game with last 2 years), BBQ in the afternoon, plenty of beer, game in the evening, more beer. Couple of Spuds fans coming as well, so should be good banter smile

I've had a few invites to watch the game, one of which is at my Liverpool mates house. I've politely declined, we have been mates for decades and I'd hate to let a thing like football be the downfall of that but if we lose, I know I'll be sick as a parrot and won't have kind words so best avoided I think.

I'll probably invite a few Spud mates over to watch it on the big projector setup. If we win we can go mad and if we lose, we can console each other and more importantly, not have any piss-takers around at a very sensitive time.

We need to win on Saturday.

I've seen us lose pretty much everything over the last 12 years I need a piece of silverware for my own sanity!

I'm feeling very delicate about it all :-)

I can't wait to get over there though! Our group were having a nightmare with tickets. We only had 4 out of about 20 travelling but nearly all have been boxed off over the last week so we are only struggling for 1 now.
None of us has had to pay over face value either which has restored my faith in it all as I was willing to pay a fair whack for one over there before I got my £395 ticket.

How many on here are going without tickets?

I trust you won't be posting in here in an inflammatory manner if you win then? wink

I'd like to think I'd be gracious in victory, most of the Spuds usually are from what I've seen tbh but I'll have probably had a few to drink too by then so who knows. biggrin

Spurs have been incredibly lucky.
Getting a late draw against half a barcelona.
Scraping through against ajax, a team they were favourites to beat and who bettered tnem for most of tne 2 games.

Liverpool by contrast were unfortunate away to barcelona, and got what tney deserved in tne return.

Liverpoll are tnere by merit.
Spurs more by fortune.

Just got two tickets from an old source in the FAI, same guy who gave us tickets in Istanbul. Now have to drive to Belfast in the morning to give them away. To say I’m gutted is an understatement, but I had known all along that I couldn’t make it to the final.
Only dilemma is the friend who if getting the tickets needs three, he is going with his twin sons. Even at this stage someone is going to be disappointed.

Spurs are there by merrit... you can't fluke getting to an ECL final, and some of the results they pulled off in the early stages were very impressive... even getting out of the group stages was a massive achievement!

Hope it's a good game.

Lucky? Beat Dortmund 4 zip, and are the only team to knock City out of anything this year
Why were we favourites to beat the team that had knocked out Juve and RM?
Barca are way off where they used to be, and it showed in both your games. Messi played well at Wembley, but if he doesn't, they look ordinary.
They've just lost the cup to Valencia, who in turn were stuffed out of sight by the gooners in the Europa League. Think that says a lot.

And you also seem to be forgetting out shocking European form away from Anfield.

I am all for being confident but the recent posts are just nonsense.

I suppose ajax are a far better team tnan barca tnen?

Messi played pretty darn good in liverpools first game.
He wasn’t allowed to play in tne return.

How did he play against spurs at barca?

We lost all our away games in the group and nearly got knocked out in the last minute.

It cuts both ways.

Over tne 2 legs of tne semis, it should have been liverpool v ajax
May not be luvvy duvvy, pat on tne back correct to say it.
But still true.

Anyway, spurs will likely beat us now!

I know its half term but this looks and reads like its been written by my 8 year old....at the very least spell the name of your own football team correctly.
