It's a bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't (depending on the outcome) moment.

If he picks the strongest team and someone gets injured he gets it.

If they win and then look tired on Saturday and get beat he should have rotated mid week.

If he picks his best team game after game and they burn out later he gets slated.

He picks his strongest team until he plays the weaker Prem sides but then lose/draw he gets slated and accused of disrespecting the opposition.

Who'd be a manager in this era huh?

It has shades of Brendan Rodgers approach when we got back into the Champions League.
Yep, only diff I can see is we were playing best team in the world at the time whereas Spurs were playing Monaco ?

I'm afraid that Dele may be believing his own hype. I noticed in the first half that he failed to track back when he lost the ball more often than not.

There's no urgency in his play this season.
I said a few pages ago that I had noticed him doing this all season and was shot down a bit for it.
I would love to see his ground-covered stats compared with a year ago because he doesn't seem to be doing anything at all at the moment.

That said, when we are playing badly pretty much every one of our team plays badly at the same time and vice versa.

I'd wager they are awful compared to say Lallana, who plays in a similar position.

Interestingly, last season his average per game was better than Lallana and the second highest in the premiership

I cannot find up to date stats but I would guess he was nowhere near that now.

The hidtory of the game is littered with young players who failed to "train on".

Must admit i'm a little miffed we never played our strongest available starting XI . There has to be a reason why Poch picked the team he did.

I am behind levy & Poch 100% i wouldn't question the selection or the way our club is run.

i do hope we give the Europa cup a go & treat it with the respect the it deserves.

I'm probably alone in saying this - but I'd really rather we don't go in to the Europa league. We could do without Thursday football.

I suppose we'd be better off seeing where we are come february , I just want a fairly strong XI , didn't do Liverpool any harm last season & they got to enjoy a big night Euro final.

No, me too.
I have zero interest in it and I feel that over the past couple of seasons it has been detrimental to our league performance.

Amazing to see a fan write this, when I got to follow my team all the way to the final it was brilliant, its what following your team is all about... I was not sat at Old trafford, Westfalenstadion or Basel for the final thinking 'waste of time this, wish we were not in it, rather be getting 4th then going out in the 1st group stage'
As fans you should want to go as far as possible in ANY competition, especially when winning cups is not exactly a regular thing. You should have a squad big enough to manage this and the prem, resting a handful of plays on a Thurs till the big games come, then as your own manager said its nothing to do with being fit enough its being mentally prepared for 2 different types of games in a week.

I agree the group stages of the Europa are a chore, but dropping out of the CL into it is ok I think, because you dodge all the st fixtures.

Also, the carrot of CL qualification is there for the winners.
