You'll notice I never, ever post in the NP&E cesspit. It's one of the saddest places on the internet.
So you bring your anger into the football forums?
What makes you think I'm angry?

I'm just sad that if I want to take my children to football I'll have to grin and bear it while they listen to a wide variety of obscenities and racist slurs.

I'll probably just give it a miss, and take them to the rugby instead.

I wonder where the lines should be drawn. I watched West Ham v Brighton and heard the WH fans singing ‘we can see you holding hands’. Homophobic, yes but did that cross the line?

Wait. The tiny minority were on both sides at once? Or did they switch sides at half-time?

You certainly come across as Mr. Angry. Why not just watch rugby, cricket, tennis or something other than football?

I used to have a season ticket at West Ham. I still go to 5-6 home games per season. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen crowd trouble or heard racist abuse. I’m not saying it never happens but a lot less than it used to. I have to say that I laughed at the Brighton holding hands song.

The crazy thing is that there's tribalism in all sport. Rugby is a great example, as there are loads of 'derbies' that have been played for 100+ years, and the rivalries are established and staunch. Yet, the opposing fans all sit together and then share a beer after the match to congratulate/commiserate.
Only this week.

And the appropriate response is: "St Helens say they will hand out lifetime bans to fans who threw objects on to the pitch".

Whereas every week we see objects being thrown onto football pitches by 'fans' with impunity. A fan who threw a glass bottle onto the pitch during a Scottish Premiership match went completely unpunished. The club couldn't identify them, and not a single soul (of the thousands surrounding them) came forward to volunteer their identity.

There's the difference.

I don't know why people keep trying to paint me as "angry", as if it somehow devalues my opinion? Curious.

The idea that I should just go and watch another sport if I don't like racist, sectarian and offensive behaviour, rather than trying to highlight it in the search for a solution, is exactly why football won't fix itself.

"If you don't like 'fans' being racist/sectarian/offensive, go find yourself another sport."

You certainly come across as a Mr Angry.

You’ve posted constantly about problems at football but have you made any suggested solutions?

And not to be divisive there is typically a huge demographic difference between RU & RL fans.
Look at who sponsors the English rugby Premiership= Gallagher- Business insurance, Risk management and consultancy.
Super League= Betfred- Taking money off gamblers.

I’ve attended hundreds of rugby Union matches as a player and fan across the world and never seen any violence or racist chanting.
Now go on Google it and you will find Joe Marler calling a Welsh player a gypsy boy. That’s about it.

Go and ask Cardiff police what they think about rugby union fans. Trouble in RU has been going on for years. To claim rugby league has a problem and rugby union doesn't, due to a different demographic of fan, is at best absurd.

The answer to keeping football fans off of the pitch is surely the threat of deduction of points. That should be self policing.

I really don’t see much problem with the songs & chants.

Again, I'm not angry. Nothing I've posted makes me sound angry.

You're doing that thing of trying to paint me as irrational, because you don't really have a counterpoint.

I've suggested plenty of solutions. And I've also suggested numerous reasons as to why they don't happen.

Do try and keep up at the back.

If you don't see a problem with thousands of people singing offensive and racist songs, then you're part of the problem. That's the apathy I'm talking about.

But you're brainwashed by the marketing machine into thinking that it's "all part of the rivalries". It's not. It's really unpleasant.

That's unacceptable in civilised society, and an individual walking down Oxford Street singing these songs would be rightly arrested.

Seems pretty consistent with St Helens.

In relation to incidents in football. If someone throws objects onto the pitch in top tier football they will be identified very easily. Every seat is visible by CCTV camera's and the identity of the offender is sought from ticket records when the seat is identified
One recent example https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-6...

If everything that got thrown onto the pitch resulted in a fan being banned, we'd probably end up with half-empty stadiums.

I see it at many corner kicks, where the poor player is trying get on with his job and ignore the detritus landing around him. He's trying to put out of his mind that one of these objects might hit him and/or injure him.

Remember when we saw that at the Davis Cup tennis? No, nor me.
