Yes McGovern is a great move by Fawaz.
Maybe a few cautious words from JMcG to Fawaz over Warnock's possible appointment has made him step back and consider this choice.
Mackay would still be my choice as I don't think we will attract the likes of DiMatteo.

I'm actually in favour of Colin as a temporary appointment (despite attending both legs of the Sheff Utd playoffs!). IMO he would give us a great chance in the playoffs, and then we can take stock in the summer. If Colin got his 9th promotion we will then head into summer being a much more attractive prospect and can take better advantage of the summer merry-go-round.

Something dodgy going off here, both us and Leeds have announced the Peltier move.

Now it's not happening according to the media? Obviously something to do with Warnock though. MatchTalk is relatively sane tonight considering.

"Warnock and Al Hasawi began having differences before the appointment became official - with the pair even arguing about team selection."

That's not a good sign.

Smart money is on Peltier going to Bolton instead. Cripes!

What ever the situation is at Forest, the owner needs to sort this mess out & stop acting like a child before yet again we become a laughing stock throughout the world of football!

I seriously wonder how he made his money at times with behaviour like this as nobody seems to want to work for/with him.

How about Brian Potter from Phoenix Nights as manager?

He knows how to rebuild a club after being destroyed by local rivals. wink

I'm chuffed he didn't appoint Warnock. I think Fawaz pulled out based on twitter chat rather than anything else. Although it did make me chuckle when Warnock came out saying he "rejected" Forest hehe

Glenn Hoddle?

Alan Curbishley?

Try to get someone temporary till the end of the season and see what happens with Nigel Clough at Sheffield United?

John Percy in the Telegraph today

The Billy Davies circus has finally been run out of Nottingham with his #unfinishedbusiness at the City Ground never to be completed.

After more than a year of drama, fallouts, multiple sackings, media blackouts, conspiratorial messages and sometimes football matches it is now time for Forest to start rebuilding their damaged reputation.

Ever since Davies returned for his second spell there were fears it would all end horribly and the sad truth is that this was so easy to predict.

With an ambitious, yet naive, chairman desperate for Premier League football and spending most of his time out of the country the decision to give Davies the keys to his club was always going to backfire.

He was given sole control, working closely alongside his cousin and agent Jim Price, to plot a return to the top flight but it seemed at times they were more preoccupied with settling personal vendettas than winning three points on a Saturday.

You have to wonder if Davies's favourite film is JFK, so obsessed as he is with conspiracy and hidden agendas.

It all began to look suspicious when club staff were mysteriously dismissed, seemingly for the crime of being affiliated to the old regime who sacked Davies in 2011.

Anyone who has dared to utter an uncomplimentary word about Davies – myself included – has been accused of being in league with his former employers, whereas the reality is that no off-the-record briefings were required to work out what was going on. His second spell has been like history repeating itself.

The bewildering decision to bar most of the media – apart from the official website and a regional TV station – was misguided and cheated the supporters. Journalists have been filmed during post-match press conferences. One experienced journalist was banned for daring to point out that conducting a post-match press conference before the Leicester game on the final day of last season was a bit, well, weird.

There have been stories of rows with photographers at games, namely at Millwall, Brighton and Barnsley.

It has all been so unsavoury, but Davies could have got away with it if he had been winning games.

Now Forest are out of the play-off places, after a run of seven Championship games without a win, with the 5-0 drubbing at Derby County the final straw for the owner, Fawaz Al-Hasawi.

Davies is now battling to save his own reputation. He had been given huge funds to spend since his appointment but had still fallen short – and even despite an alarming injury crisis there was enough in that squad to put up a fight at the iPro Stadium on Saturday.

A decent Championship manager hugely admired by most of his players and ex-players, he should have something to offer but he possesses so much baggage he should be nicknamed 'Gatwick'.

The reputation of Forest has suffered the most damage and needs repairing swiftly. The pugnacious attitude has irritated many of their Championship rivals, while Davies' antics have alienated many. Price's exit is arguably an even bigger cause for celebration.

Remarkably, the club could still end their long exile from the top tier in May. Neil Warnock is set to be appointed and should provide a short, sharp jolt to the senses.

With seven promotions already, he would relish securing an eighth before taking a likely director of football role, either at Forest or elsewhere.

For Davies, though, the business is finished. In his final interview on his regional TV vehicle earlier this month he defiantly insisted he was "going nowhere". Like so many of his decisions at Forest, he got it wrong.

Which in itself is a massive problem. He takes too much notice of the tts on ttter. It's got every single one of our managers sacked.

We need a proper CEO and Fawaz to come off twitter, or stop taking so much notice of it. (If he's listening today I think we'll appoint Psycho.(thats who the crowds are asking for))

As much as I'd love Stuart back, I dont want to tarnish my legend status of him. But I suppose he does know young talent when he sees it from his u21 days.....

Perhaps I might tweet him & tell him I am available. rolleyes

I don't think Fawaz is making decisions based on twitter. (My timeline seemed to be in favour of Warnock, anyway)
The "arguments about team selection" could be a red herring, but based on what Warnock said on Talksport this morning Fawaz is moving away from a one man dictatorship structure and to a more modern head coach structure.

This would not sit well with someone old school, like Warnock or BD but - as Warnock himself says - Zola could be the right man for the job.

After Billy I think this structure is definitely the way forward.
Some fans will look at the structure and think back to the transfer acqusition panel but we only have Billy's thoughts on how that worked. He didn't want it, so he was constantly critical of that kind of structure. He wanted to run the team, get the players and just have someone else write the cheques. I think the game has moved on from that.
