Time to revive this following some PSFs.

After seeing the new squad in action, I now have some confidence Stevenage will be able to survive this League 1 season which I really couldn't see happening before.

Stevenage 3-4 Oldham

Cracking game for a neutral. Shame I wasn't frown

Stevenage held an undeserved 1-0 HT lead. Oldham go 3-1 up. Back to 3-3 on 83 mins. Oldham win their second very dubious penalty on 85 to take the game 4-3.

I was very impressed with Oldham, they have some very skilful players but they all drop like a stone at the slightest of touches and sadly the ref bought it. What was worse was their habit of surrounding the ref on every foul. I think we ended up with 7 or 8 yellow cards which makes it sound like a dirty game but in reality, it was a cleanly contested match.

The ref was Darren Sheldrake. So if you see this guy on your programme be prepared for a non contact game of football.

Stevenage became the first team relegated in the Football League party

First relegation in my lifetime and only the club's second. It sucks. We have a relatively strong squad but for whatever reason Westley has completely failed to find a way to make it work. Roll on League 2 and Luton yuck

First check in in a while from the Stevenage fan.

We're finally starting to see some entertainment again, although away from home we are diabolical. Westley, no matter who we're playing, has a new obsession with setting out for the draw. It's so depressing because give the squad he's assembled a bit of freedom and we play some good stuff. But away from home, our attacking 451 we play at home turns into the most negative 451 you'll ever see.

We had Oxford away last week, Oxford were absolutely fking ste. Yet we let them walk all over us and somehow escaped with a 0-0 thanks to Oxford seemingly not being able to hit a barn door. Westley came out saying how happy he was and we were never troubled - very worrying if he that really is a successful away day against one of the worst teams in the league frown

Can't complain too much though as before this season started, we had averaged 0.8 points per game over the last 18 months - the worst in the football league. And despite not really playing close to our full ability - we strummed Mansfield 3-0 and still looked pretty ordinary - we're still up near the playoffs and come the end of the season I fully expect us to be in the hunt for the automatic spots despite what anyone who has played us at their ground will say.

The love is returning after 2 years of absolute st at Stevenage. Teams are beginning to dislike us again as we aren't just showing up and rolling over for them. We even got verbally abused leaving the ground by a few Wycombe fans for daring to support our "rugby" team after the game on Saturday. If only we'd have scored the 97th minute penalty to snatch it 3-2.

You guys are widely praised on our boards for being the best team we played this season, no one really knows how we won that game - I was the other side of the world for the game myself. Sounds like it was a proper smash and grab which seemed to actually mark our turning point as since Christmas we've been playing much nicer stuff and we're probably the form team at the moment. Wycombe just got their knickers in a twist because they still haven't beaten us at Admas Park. Foul count, game after game, suggests otherwise to 'our style'.

I just don't get why people outlaw strength from the game. If you get to our game in a couple of weeks you'll see we don't argue with the ref, surround him into making decisions etc and of our current starting 11, only 2 or 3 of the players could be considered 'lumps'.

Long may it continue though, the best bit about league football compared to non league is how touchy home fans are when you turn them over.

And perfectly on queue, Westley has cast his bait... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31732558

Stevenage look to be heading into the L2 playoffs with currently 1 defeat in 13 which itself was a farce with the lino flagging offside, ref playing on only for Daggers to cross the ball to a player to score who was offside but the lino was still flagging the original decision so couldn't see that one!

Head up though Cosworth, it's been a bit more enjoyable in League 2 with more local away games and not getting bummed every week. L2 is dreadful and with only 2 going down, it can be a good way of rebuilding the team with little risk of going down - although if you do go down, the conference is evil.

For Freddie Sears to Ipswich, read Paddy Madden to Shorpe for us. Fell out with the manager last season, scored nearly twenty goals this year. Our whole team has only got 33 in the league this season.
33! That is grim. I think we managed a goal a game finishing bottom last season. What's gone on at Yeovil? Established in League 1, has the promotion ruined you? I'm almost glad we didn't get into the Championship when we got into the playoffs as I fear we might have gone through the same. Are you going to be alright in League 2? It's a dreadful division.

Bye bye league 1 & 2 thread, hopefully we won't be away too long. TRFC
The conference can be an absolute bd. Usually there's a small team that have spent a fortune amassing the stars of non league who will be very strong. With only 2 promotion spots, it's straight down to the lottery of the playoffs. This seems to have caused a bit of a bottleneck of decent clubs as you very rarely see teams promoted from the conference struggle in League 2.

It should be three up.

Similarly, does anyone know why 4 go up from league 2 and 4 down from league 1? This seems to lead to clubs yo-yo'ing between the leagues.

Should be 3 up, 3 down to the conference which needs to be 4 down to support 2 promotion spots from each north and south division.

That being said, it's definitely a chance to see a load of awesome new grounds and it's certainly a friendlier division with much more genuine fans without the elements out for a bit of trouble.

So you'll experience a load of friendly club houses, cheaper ticket prices and some great terraced stands.

At least you've given us one southern team in a vary northern league if we do get through the playoffs... I suspect you'll have the Essex derby instead as I can't see us progressing past Southend.

Not particularly too fussed as League 2 has a load of local away games next season and we will be very strong.

Football is a bd. Oh well, League 2 has more local games and we'll be very strong next season if we can keep the good players and a few more shake off their long term injuries.

Childhood hero taking over at Stevenage, welcome Super Ted!

Very odd appointment though. He doesn't seem to know much about the club. Massive gamble from the chairman to drum up local interest in the team. Looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

Stevenage - Teddy Sheringham appointment was always going to be a gamble.
Chairman also wants to see some of his investment in the youth system given a chance which Westley wouldn't have done.
The youth kids look very promising.
Steven Schumacher signed from Fleetwood and probably as our highest earner looks a shadow of what he did when I saw him for Bury.
Sheringham, despite having the most promising kid I've seen since George Boyd, isn't giving him any game time as he is set on an awful 4222 formation with 2 defensive mid who don't join attacks leaving a massive hole in the middle.
When we've played a solid 442 due to injury, we've won.
Saturday away to Cambridge was a disgrace and hopefully he isn't stubborn enough to stick with it.

...and I've misplaced my season ticket :/

Yesterday was a pleasant surprise on the box. Defence looked a mess but it was good to see us score 3. Perhaps there is hope for Teddy yet.

That is worrying what's happened to you lot. Seeing Yeovil reach the Championship had me hoping it's what Stevenage could achieve one day. Facing 3 back to back relegations as a result of it is horrific.

Good deserved point for us at Pompey on Tuesday. Teddy is beginning to win a few of the Westley fan boys over. I'd like a nice mid table season, something we've only experience once in the last 8 years and even then an end of season nose dive in form would have had us in serious trouble if it hit a couple of matches earlier.

Then next season, Teddy leads his assault on League 2 playing some of the best football League 2 has seen.

Can't disagree with that Boydie. I'm a Pompey fan (41 years now and counting, bloody hell) and it was refreshing to see a team come to Fratton and not "park the bus". That said, you missed three really good chances before the late, late equaliser. Bit gutting for us, but can't complain really.
Paul Cook has set us up for shape, and possession. It works away from home (5 wins from 7)but we've only won twice at home. If we could only have a different shape at home (read: Adam Barton not just passing sideways) then we'd get promotion easily.
So here's a prediction for the top three this season: Plymouth, Pompey, and Luton. Play offs: Oxford, Orient, Accrington and Northampton (if they survive financial problems). Bottom two: Daggers and Newport.
Mike.
Cheers mate. Was meant to head down but a Pompey supporting mate was working and a friend couldn't justify the £50 needed for the day. Gutted as that was now the last glimmer of hope we are a good team. Two woeful performances since at Northampton then the 5-1 at home to Oxford. I still remain confident there are some excellent footballers in there, sadly none of them possess any defensive ability and Sheringham has taken a liking to pairing two of the slowest defenders I've ever seen - we have one clean sheet so far frown

At least 1 of them is now banned after the red vs Oxford. It's sad a ban actually (slightly) increases confidence in pulling off what would be a massive shock in knocking the Gills out on Saturday. A few years ago we were knocking out Championship teams for fun and feared no one.

Luton won't be up there, which makes me happy. I suspect it will be Plymouth Pompey and Oxford in the autos.

Well Stevenage ttting Gills for 3 has to be one of the performances of the round given our respective league form.

Teddy finally played the back 4 we've been calling for and we get only our second clean sheet!

Keeper was forced off injured but hopefully the rest of the squad remains unchanged for the trip to Yeovil in search of our first away win.

Lowest ranked team at home in the FA Cup please - Stourbridge would be funny, twice in the past they've made round 2 and twice been knocked out by us.

Stevenage at home for us, dress rehearsal this coming Saturday.

You want to do a Q & A for our programme, Boydie? There's a free copy in it for you.
On news of the draw I think I'll be postponing the trip down we were planning on Saturday and instead make the trip for the cup game. Never been to the Huish despite it being a decent hunting ground for us since we've got into the league.

Would do but my views of the club definitely don't seem to mirror the majority who still have their knickers in a twist about releasing Westley and looking to go in a new direction with a celeb manager which I don't have an issue with.

Okay, no problems, your shout. If you are no fan of Westley, your views would be welcomed by YTFC fans if not your own supporters. He is absolutely despised by Glovers everywhere.
He undoubtedly worked miracles with us in his second spell and put together one hell of a team which I have no doubt would have achieved 3 back to back promotions had he stayed rather than jumping at the first opportunity he was offered before coming back with his tail between his legs and leading us to a miserable relegation which many fans have simply ignored as "it wasn't his team" - that team still achieved lower mid table in League 1 the year before which wasn't deemed good enough and got that manager sacked.
I don't doubt he'd have eventually had us back in League 1 - probably would have gone up this season - but the fear would have been there that he'd stitch us up again at the first sign of interest from elsewhere.
I'm sure Teddy will leave us if he is approached for a bigger job but he needs to be successful with us first and we have promoted from within to get our very successful youth coach working with the first team who I hope will take over if/when Teddy is approached.
Still, a long time ahead until we see if that all happens but I like that the club have made the brave decision and if we can start repeating Saturday's performance, crowd numbers will go up which is the main goal of the current board.
