Just back from the game after having gone down at 10.45am and worked in the media department all day, commentating on the game and writing website match report.

Think everyone else has summed it up perfectly; felt 0-1 might have been a fairer result. Can't blame any one for the second goal as we had to try to get back into the game. First goal was a stroke of genius from Herrera. Still, well done Man U and good luck in the fourth round.. clap

Off the field, had interviewed Lou Macari and Mickey Thomas in the build up and through working there, managed to meet Lou. There simply is no one nicer in football than him, genuinely lovely guy. Talked about Marvellous of course and he signed my programme on the article I'd written on him!!

Well done again, Man U, and credit also to Louis Van Gaal. Really nice guy, praised our manager & his tactics and had time and respect for everyone around him.

That's nice to hear. I love the games with lower league teams, it's much different to any other game of the season for stories like yours.

There seemed to be a few good banners from the Yeovil fans... one was "We Wanted City". biggrin
Yes, the whole day was brilliant. I know football is ultimately all about winning but for simple country folk like myself, it's the day the posh folk come to town. So much happened yesterday that it will live with me forever and that's not really including the match itself.

Normally, we have around 12-15 media accreditations to process, yesterday there were 109 and still people applying on the morning of the game. As mentioned earlier, met Lou Macari plus loads of journos from the nationals... Martin Samuel, Henry Winter etc plus the local TV and radio guys. John Hartson was there with Michael Owen, Owen Hargreaves, Steve McManaman.... it is still exciting for an old fart of 46 like me to witness close up.... boxedin

Anyhow, enough looking back, would be quite good for us if you went on and won the Cup now. We lost to Arsenal twice before in the third round (1970/71 and 1992/93) and they went on to win the thing so it would make us feel a little better. hehe

And Gary Johnson, Yeovil's manager, cut his managerial teeth at Cambridge United in the good old John Beck days.

Johnson is also credited with switching Dublin from centre half to centre forward (or the other way around).

And a final boring fact from Sunday's tie.

Rafael had to go back to Manchester by taxi on Sunday evening because his injury prevented him from flying back with the rest of the team.

Some nice connections, Ron Atkinson was manager of Cambridge, Dion Dublin followed big Ron to Man U and more recently Luke Chadwick has come back to finish his career at his local club. Mind you I think Cambridge would have preferred the draw at old Trafford for the money!
Quick question.. Why do the lower teams make more money playing at the big clubs, rather than at home against big clubs?

It got me thinking when the commentator said Wimbledon wouldn't mind a draw so they can go to Anfield and get loads of money. I thought they would make more having a big club visit them.
Gate receipts are split 40% to each team and 20% to the FA.

Yeovil made around £300k out of Sunday's game (£145k from BT sport plus merchandise, 40% of 9,200 tickets at average £20 cost), hospitality etc. Would be much more from a 70k gate at Old Trafford with a higher average ticket price too.

Not sure precisely who she is but assuming she might be Karen someone, I won't be sad to see her go.

When we played Man U in the FA Cup this season, we asked for access to a Man U first teamer for an interview for the programme. She turned down all our requests without a moment's thought that it was for another football club that would have reciprocated had the need arose. That's how it works at football clubs, one helps out the other. We even had the brother of a Man U first teamer with us last season and even he said that he would be happy giving us his bro's number but no point as he wouldn't be allowed to do the interview.

On the day, we weren't allowed to have a first team player for the interview after the game which meant a one sided TV interview with our captain and no one from United.

Dreadful dive by Rooney. No contact whatsoever.

The bit I find puzzling (and so does Kevin Kilbane in the post match farce of a discussion) is why didn't he simply hurdle the challenge? No need to go down, no contact from the keeper and for those who say he would have had his legs broken, just jump and get your feet out of the way and retrieve the ball.

No doubt Rooney will be booed regularly again from now on then wonder why a lot of people don't warm to him. You can bet your bottom dollar that if Suarez had done it, the pitchforks would have been out demanding that he be frogmarched out the country straight away. But because it's the England captain, lots think it is funny and the press will go a lot easier on him than our South American friend.

The straw grabbing and bitterness on here is comical. Fascinating how the ABU's actually follow Man U like a true fan. biglaugh
Penalty or no penalty, you won the game. However, it says a lot about Rooney and the way your lot are playing that he felt he had to dive to make it safe. It also says even more about anybody that says it was a penalty, for the keeper's intent or the need to evade the tackle.
Next round will be a cracker, that's for sure.
Funny how anyone who posts that Rooney dived or the goal was offside because he was interfering with play is immediately called an ABU.... scratchchin

I'm no ABU, I don't support a Premier League team and I'm actually of the belief that I hope United do well as it would make for a more exciting BPL title race. No ABU agenda here, Lazy, I'm just very disappointed that Rooney dived. And given that he plays for United and this is the United thread, guess I'm right to post it here. thumbup

That's a nice article, he sounds like a bit of a character.

I'm almost ready to forgive him scoring against us in the FA Cup. cry
