Sad to see Joey go but money talks.

If I am being frank, there is no way on earth he is a £15m player. It's the previously inflated prices of other players that has caused this (plus the release fee).

Good luck to him, but at that price Liverpool fans are not going to give him much time to become a success....

All the best Joe, and thanks for funding the stadium expansion!

I've been watching the Swans very closely and he is basically the metronome that makes them tick. Most of the play goes through him and I see him as an absolute perfect foil for Lucas freeing up Gerrard to do what he does best. I think he'll be a fantastic signing for us and sorely missed at the Liberty I'm afraid to say.
I think you do a disservice to a certain Mr Britton there HR who IMO is the more important player to the Swans... wink

It depends what you want for your £15m I guess.

Goals and assists are not Allen's thing. He is not a dead-ball specialist (in fact his corner delivery is weak). He is short so not going to win anything in the air.

What he will offer is:

- quick-passing and high pass completion ratio
- movement
- awareness of space
- excellent touch with either foot
- will give your defenders confidence to pass it short rather than hoof it - he rarely loses the ball
- a lot of energy and terrier like harrasing of opposition players
- a never say die attitute

As HR alluded to in an earlier post - he is a slightly less classy but more dogged Xabi Alonso.

If you think the above is worth £15m then enjoy!

Thanks for the reply.

He might not be worth 15m to you but he does sound like the player we need, we have a gap in our squad for this type of player.
Don't get me wrong, we would love him to stay as he is grounded in the Swansea way and was integral to our perfomances last season.

But if you had told me 2/3 years ago when he was cutting his teeth in League 1 that we would get £15m for him one day I would have laughed in your face.

Receiving £15m for anybody was inconceivable for many many years so although on the one hand there is an emotional loss as Joe has been at the club since he was 9, £15m for him plus the £5m we got for Rodgers should set us up for a long time - fair play, this is what Rodgers wanted (to protect Swansea City FC).

I hope he does brilliantly and good luck to you guys too!

Dude. I was watching Leon from the North Bank in League 2 against Shorpe after he was bought with money clubbed together by the fans!! He's good but Joe is on another level imo.
I am with you - those were the days!

I think the two together are the oil that kept the machine ticking, they are both similar players (although Leon does a better job of breaking up play). On balance I would rather keep Allen as he is younger and quicker.

But Leon will do - he was free too!

To be honest, the future is bright for our midfield from what I have seen of De Guzman and Michu - just hope we can keep the momentum and not lose any more of our core 11 from last season.

Lot of rumours that Sinclair is off to City!

£15m is a lot to Swansea, though obviousley Allen will be a big miss. Do you really see them investing in the stadium, rather than the team?

Who've you brought in so far this summer? Who's this Michu guy, a striker? I'd rather the cash be put back into building the team, that sort of money could buy 2 or 3 really decent prem players to strengthen your squad.

How's the pre season gone for you guys? As a Norwich fan, I'm not very optomistic for our chances.
Alex,

£15m is an incredible amount of money for us. Added to the £5m we got for Rodgers plus the Prem TV rights we are pretty much quids in.

We will miss Allen as he was a major cog and I worry about the loss of continuity. However, so far we have brought in Michu:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miguel_P%C3%A9rez_Cue...

who single-handedly kept Rayo Vallecano from relegation from La Liga (scoring 14 goals from midfield) - £2m.

Jonathan De Guzman we have in on loan from Villareal - he was a potential Dutch star who has not lived up to his potential...yet.

And some centre-back called Chico Flores who is to replace Steven Caulker.

Think we have spent £5m in total.

Stadium expansion / purchase of the council is a possibility, although I would rather see the money go on the proposed Academy, plus some defensive cover and a decent striker to give Graham competition.

Pre-season tour to America was ok - held a top MLS side to a 2-2 draw. Just beat strong Blackpool team 4-2 with a Graham hat-trick. Think the Laudrup approach is attack attack attack! Could be interesting...

What's going on at Norwich? Other than losing Lambert I have not followed much else.

Nice to see the Swans reserves have something in the tank to beat a good Barnsley side!

So Sinclair is off then - enjoy sitting on the bench! Maybe he can send texts and Tweets to Dorus de Vries on match days...but hey, he will now be rich beyond hid wildest dreams.

Hernandez deal looks on so I think we have a like-for-like swap there - hopefully with less blatantly obvious cutting in and shooting!

I think in truth it is the lure of Laudrup first, then Swansea City second - got no problem with that!

No disrespect to Rodgers (a top manager in the making) but I honestly don't think Michu, De Guzman, Ki and now Hernandez would have been anywhere near our books if he was still with us.

Now obviously he has the Liverpool legacy as his ammunition to attract better players, but as usual at Swansea, the club moves on and improves - everyone worries at the time but it has been the same since Jackett / Martinez era.

Apparently we are trying to sign a young winger from Feyernoord for Just under £1m - Jerson Cabral.

Word is Ronald Koeman has told Laudrup this kid could be the real deal but is lazy as a cat - needs a kick up the arse.

Worth a punt in my view!

Still be nice to get a striker today as competition for big Danny.

Quiet in here! Probably for good reason!

6 points against Reading and Wigan and Laudrup will be the King of Denmark again I am sure...

SwanJack - agree with your post.

Our defence is frankly in tatters. We miss Caulker big time who did his job quietly and efficiently. Rangel's deficiencies are being shown up playing with Chico who is not IMO a good enough replacement. Tate was frankly embarrasing (legend that he is).

Davies is doing admirably being thrown in the deep-end but yes, he is no Taylor who always gives the opposition something else to worry about.

Ki looks class and will become a top buy. De Guzman seems to flit in and out and doesn't seem to want to get his shorts dirty. Hernandez looks a bit shell-shocked but wouldn't you be when your first start is to come up agains Walters, Huth, Shawcross et al! Britton does his best but we sorely miss Allen who, along with Leon, was always willing to do the dirty work.

Thank god Vorm seems to be getting back to something like his best!

A very encouraging display indeed.

It wasn't a backs to the wall display either. It was cultured and planned. We were well organised and solid defensively which has got to be the biggest positive.

Davies is a revelation, Rangel was excellent in attack and Ki is superb.

Got to keep it up now!

Some superb movement and passing from all the team. Pablo H now beginning to get into it big time, superb performance from him. Leon head and shoulders above Allen wink , selling him and getting Michu and Ki, well it's all been said before. At no point under Rodgers would we have played like that. Happy days smile
Before last night I would have hoped Laudrup would play a second string team as I feel Britton et al need a breather....but I have to say the keep the winning mentality is much more important at the moment.

We are really starting to click and am pleased Mr Laudrup kept the momentum high.

It shows the strength of team unity that guys like Monk and Davies can come in and do a good job. What Monk lacks in pace he more than makes up for in reading the game.

Shame Tremmel didn't get the clean sheet he deserves, especially as their goal should never have stood - Taylor was practically sitting on Gerhard when he was on the floor having made the first save.

A great 3 points, and as Laudrup said, we are well placed to reach his minimum target of points for the 1st half of the season.

Bring on Liverpool and Brenda!

Probably the best 45 minutes of football I have ever seen the Swans play. We would have beaten anybody playing like that.

Love it!

Not in the slightest. Reading the Liverpool thread is a guilty pleasure of mine.

An amusing quote on a blog I read last night following the game said "the only way Swansea could improve on their first half performance was if they brought their manager on".

Still have not recovered from the fact I was offered a ticket and could not go! frown

I am literally on cloud 9 right now with the way the team is playing, but more how it is being run.

Laudrup is so much more tactically astute. He saw Wenger bring on Oxlaide-Chamberlain and realised straight away that Rangel might struggle with his pace. So, without delay he brought on Tiendelli (who is quick) and moved Rangel to right midfield where he had a great game. Proactive not reactive is the name of the game.

Moment of the match has to be Rangel breaking through into the box and doing a step-over before firing a great shot into the near-post.

We bought that guy for £13,000.

Poor performance overall but pleased we ground out a win despite that.

Schecter was awful, Dyer and De Guzman slack.

The game changed when the magnificent Ki came on and I thought Luke Moore brought something different too.

In the semi's!

Could just be bullst but a regular on the SCFC2 forum claims to have it on good authority that the Villa deal is done - 3 month loan from Jan.

If true, I may have to change my under-crackers!
