Roy's success has always been to get the best out of average players, for teams (club and international) where there are no big egos and there is limited expectation from the fans. England job doesn't seem to fit this bill! He's done a great job for us at WBA, and I hope he says no to the FA and signs his new contract. Not sure he will, though.

Well given the "we need an Engliah manager" mantra the FA seemingly only really had two choices Redknapp or Hodgson. Neither are by any means exceptional but there has been a top class English manager since Sir Bobby Robson that I can think of confused

Given that choice and I suppose some of the wider ranging repsonsibilities of the job I can see why they went with Hodgson....Harry definitely carries a bit of baggage, doesn't actually have a brilliant CV in terms of trophies and loves chatting to the press. Hodgson getting Fulham to the final of a European cup is probably a greater achievement than Portsmouth winning the FA Cup under Harry.

i think he (woy) is a very good manager with good players, but maybe not so good with very good high profile players and that will be his problem.
but id give it too him in front of harry every time.
the biggest problem with harry apart from his tactical nouse is that unlike terry V only having a skeleton in his wardrobe harry has a graveyard full of skeletons in his.
of course he also shat on my hammers as well.

No surprise.
When did the FA last make a correct decision?

At least Spurs will have a second chance next season to go that step further instead of disintegrate.

Fast forward to 2014 in Brazil. High hopes anyone?

Absolute horrific decision. Or could it be the FA are trying to be clever and bait redknapp?

Can someone explain the 'correct' decision to me? Who should they have picked? Why is Roy wrong? His international, and European record is good. Which other English manager could say the same?

Why does he have to be English for starters??

Also would you want him at Everton if Moyes left in the summer?

Because all the talk seems to be about an English manager. Personally, I am not arsed what nationality they are. However, amongst the English managers, who has a better record? It seems to be a toss up at the moment with Harry and Roy. So, comparing records, Roy decimates Harry, by a long way, so why is Harry seen as the only one who should be in the slot? After the last few months of Harry at Spirs, I'm not sure he should even be considered.

As for Roy at Everton, I don't mind him as a manager. you guys obviously hate him, but that is for another thread. I'd rather Moues stayed, (and it sounds like he will do).

Spot on - plus the FA need someone little they can dictate to.

The FA (as well as UEFA and FIFA) are catastrophic for football. They have no interest in running the sport for the fans, only for their own power and pockets.

Unfortunately for Roy he'll be McLaren Mk2. Not the fans choice, certainly not the press choice hence he's doomed before he starts, frankly. A couple of poor performances or results and the knives will be out across Fleet St.

How about seeing how he does before condemning the man?

Where's the fun in that?

However, we won't have too long to wait. The summer campaign will make or break him. Nothing but better than glorious failure in the semis will do.

What a mess! Give Pearce the job and sort it out when we come back. If he does well give him the job full time. It makes no sense to me at all to bring in Harry or Roy at this stage. They've both been far too wrapped up in WBA and Spurs business to have had their boys out looking at the bigger picture etc.

Give it to Pearce I'd much rather see him jumping up and down on the touchline if we are doing sh*t than seeing Roy rubbing his face or Harry turning a deeper shade of red and sinking into his chair.

The problem is that when Roy fails which he no doubted will, everyone will say they appointed the wrong man

Saw it with Brian clough. This appointment if it happens has nothing to do with Roy being the right man at all

Can't disagree with any of that.

Nobody has considered the possibility that Harry said no, either.

Tbh I think, out of the two, that this is the right decision. Harry seems a likeable bloke but if he was really heavyweight manager, why have none of the big clubs ever picked up on this hidden talent through his first 60 years on the planet?
