Why buy a defensive RB to play in a system that hasn’t, doesn’t, and won’t use a traditional RB?
We’ve never had defensive FB’s under Klopp… up to last season they played more as wingers or wing backs, and now 1 of them plays as a MF in possession.
Trent is what he is… people need to accept his occasional defensive weaknesses for his attacking threat.
We aren’t going backwards… need to find players that work with the new tactics.

This one passed me by.
Newcastle paying Karius £10k a week!.
fk the universe. Wish I could be that bad at my job and still pick up half a million a year.
I saw that earlier and thought the same thing. Must stick in the craw of some of our great players from a couple of decades ago. Newcastle paying Karius £10k a week!.

Probably a massive dent to the ego of our social media loving former goalie to be in that list though
On the topic of weekly wages I was hugely surprised by what Diaz picks up. Talk of Barcelona being interested in him kicked off by his father so was checking how long his contract runs for.
Considerably less than half of what we pay Darwin (£140k) or even Cody (£120k). Doesn't seem right that, even when you consider he was only on £28k when he joined apparently?

Is 2021-22 not a mistake in the table? 28k being half of 56k and he was only with us for half a season.
Maybe in 2027 Barcelona can afford his wages if he runs down his contract (leaving him on 56k a week). They won’t be able to offer us enough to consider selling him in the meantime.

Ah, of course he joined in Jan so makes sense.Maybe in 2027 Barcelona can afford his wages if he runs down his contract (leaving him on 56k a week). They won’t be able to offer us enough to consider selling him in the meantime.
Not really interested in the Barcelona stuff as highly likely a south american player would have aspirations to play there at some point, just very surprised he is on so little in comparison to others as a first XI player.
Szobo joined on £120k and Grav/Mac £150k apparently. Needs a better agent..

I genuinely don't think he'd improve any male professional team in this country. Probably a massive dent to the ego of our social media loving former goalie to be in that list though
Imagine being in the Conference (or whatever its called these days) as a keeper and seeing Karius earn 10 times more than you to be 3rd or 4th choice at Newcastle.

He'll get a new contract surely. Considerably less than half of what we pay Darwin (£140k) or even Cody (£120k). Doesn't seem right that, even when you consider he was only on £28k when he joined apparently?
He's worth nearer 200k all day long. Is there a better left winger in the league?

I’d guess it’s more about where he came from. Portuguese league vs Bundesliga and PL. everyone’s had an interview where they ask what you’re currently on. No question for me he needs a new contract now though. I mean he’s not even on 6 Karius’sNot really interested in the Barcelona stuff as highly likely a south american player would have aspirations to play there at some point, just very surprised he is on so little in comparison to others as a first XI player.

Yep. Dictionary definition of stealing a living. And he still has a CL runners up medal. Imagine being in the Conference (or whatever its called these days) as a keeper and seeing Karius earn 10 times more than you to be 3rd or 4th choice at Newcastle.

Same league as we bought Darwin from, yet < 50% of the wages. Flip Martian said:
On the flip side, it's a 6 year contract. How often do we hand those out?
Darwin, Szobo, Grav and Mac Allister are all on 5 year deals and Cody is on 5.5 the same as Diaz due to being a January signing. Edited by SWoll on Saturday 18th November 16:00
