Well for better or worse we have signed Valencia - http://www.whufc.com/articles/20140717/hammers-agr...
Hopefully he'll actually get on the pitch rather than sit on the bench.sjc said:
Agreed.
A five year old could have come up with that.
I like it but then I'm old enough to remember the plain white badge just with two crossed hammers. In my time the badge has slowly got more complicated and this strips it back to the essentials. Doesn't need London though. A five year old could have come up with that.

So it seems that the older guys like it. I like the simplicity but agree that London could be replaced.

If we get a decent start 10th or above.
If we have a ste start probably a similar place to last season.
Lot of money being spent across the league at the moment so it'll be tough again; our home form must be better when playing our immediate competition as that cost us last season - draws w/ WBA & villa in particular.
Getting anything from the top 6 is going to be very difficult again.
Still decent pre-season, players fit etc who knows.

So given the squad changes (hopefully I should say strengthened) anybody willing to stick their neck out and predict where we will finish this season?
I would love to think we won't be here in December debating another relegation battle but 50 years experience tells me otherwise ETA: Ok then I'll predict top half of the table.

I know there's some season ticket holders and a few people close to the club on here so does anyone have an idea what our strongest XI will be? Will Poyet figure? Will Morrison get a run? Has Sherringham had much influence yet?
Morrison's out following a hernia (I think) op earlier in the week - doubt we'll see much of him for a few weeks; annoying that he couldn't have had that whilst away at qpr Would've thought Poyet might get some chances from the bench & will start in the early league cup games - he looked ok against ipswich on Wed. Hope to see something of Lleget as well as he looked very sharp.
I have been supporting and watching WHU since 1966 and sometimes I think nothing ever changes. In my mind we have a 'spiritual home' around mid way down the Premiership or old First Division. Occasionally we get ideas above our station and go higher then it all goes tits up and we end up relegated though thankfully never for long.
Still it could be worse, think of Notts Forrest, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds etc.

Amusingly in 'Arry's book he says that even with Hurst, Moore and Peters we still only finished mid-table, "showed how crap the rest of us were," he said! Best was the Cottee/McAvennie years and I look back fondly on the period when we had Hartson, Kitson and Lomas. That was under Harry's tenure. Indeed most entertaining period recently was as Harry as manager (DiCanio, Joe Cole, Trevor Sinclair etc.) I think we had 4 players go to the World Cup one year, yet he seems universally disliked by some element of the crowd.
