Think there's been a lot of work on set pieces.

A lucky goal at the end to disguise a lacklustre performance overall for me. Thank God Kane knows where the net is though. Happy with 3 points for sure, but its just so boring watching England play sadly.

All a bit negative in here. Best team in Africa, showed how good they are in the warm up games, probably only had one chance to score, we should have scored 3 or 4 in the first half, other big teams have shown that it’s not easy to win.

Oh, and we rarely win World Cup games.

Good start.
Agreed. Some of the comments in here are typical england "fan". Young team of players with fewest caps in the tournament did what Germany and Brazil couldn't in their first games and won. That's the best played opening game I've seen England play in a big tournament. I'll take that and be positive. ??
That's what it's all about, winning the game and being the better team - they did both.

Sometimes the best team don't win, we see it in the premier league every week, and that's why the bookies take the money in with busted accumulators smile

England were a big chunk better than Tunisia and they got the 3 points. 9/10 in that respect. Sure, they missed some sitters but if you miss sitters and still win, it puts them in a good spot if they do manage to find that extra gear and start putting them away.

you thought that was boring? Lots of missed chances, you make it sound like they parked the bus.

What does it take to get you interested ?

Not sure those set pieces were lucky, They looked like England have been practicing set pieces a lot. Lots of players in the box and both occasions Kane get to knock-ons.

England had 18 shots, 13 from set pieces.

Maybe the influence of Big Sam is still with them.

With 2 goals in his first WC match, Harry Kane has overtaken Wayne Rooney's WC total...

We squeaked past them in the end but how many times in the past have we spluttered and coughed, and only got a draw. Beat Panama on Sunday and we'll be as good as qualified, with Belgium likely to beat the Tunisians.

Rose for Young and Rashford for Sterling would be my two changes. Watching Panama today, their defence are glorified thugs that hate pace so stick MR on from the start and the game'll be over by half time.

One last moan about Young. When we have Kane and Rashford on the pitch, and we get a free kick 20-25 yards out, Young should be back marking the halfway line. Not bloody taking the set piece.

I lost interest when Walker conceded the penalty, up to then I thought we weren't too bad though. The second half was dire to watch for me, and I wish I was from either Spain or Portugal because they know how to play entertaining football.

VAR is total bks. Two certain penalties questions should be asked.

Yep, he wasn't his usual self although we'll see what that injury is like first. Wasn't too impressed with Lingard either, but to criticise him, as some have, for missing that chance that hit the post is a little harsh IMO. Think I'll upgrade from two changes to three then, although I think GS will name an unchanged team.

So for Panama, I'd go...

Pickford
Walker Stones Maguire
Trippier Loftus-Cheek Henderson Alli Rose
Kane Rashford

They need to look at how reviews are carried out in cricket. It works really well, and howlers by umpires are a thing of the past. Each team gets a couple of chances to request the ref think again and check the video, and all this to be shown on the big screen. That'll make the ref think twice about chancing his arm. VAR could be a good thing but it's being wasted.

As above.

VAR is a joke really - just WHAT are these guys looking at?

We nicked it at the end but it was fully deserved. Would have been a crime if we had only drawn that. Sterling's finishing is SO poor there are no words, really. Play Rashford next game.

Yes. VAR needs to stay, they just need to tell the refs not to be scared to make a decision. I think the fear of being made to look a plinker is probably holding them back (well it it did this guy. fk sake.).

If Alli is fit he should start to get the best out of Kane as has been mentioned. It did seem like he tweaked something or had a knock as after a bright start and good first half in general he was anonymous in the second period.

Agree on getting Rose in as Young is just too one dimensional, everyone knows he is going to shift the ball onto his right. Lingard out for RLC/Rash and get Sterling some confidence against Panama (hopefully!!!).
