The Official England Thread-The Team We All Support [Vol 2]
Discussion
I think 6/10 is a fair score.
I'd start Rose, Loftus-Cheek and Rashford for the next game, losing Young, Stirling and Ali. Young was so shocking, I'd put him on the plane home.
And Oi Talksport! Stop playing all the England football songs like we've just beaten Germany. We have a very long way to go and thanks mainly to the ref we only just squeezed that one.
So leave it out!!!!!

Some bks i'm reading in here this morning. No it wasn't the best performance but the players all showed grit and determination to go to the final whistle and win. Showed a lot of character.
Also the first game is always a nervy affair, just look at Germany, Brazil and Argentina for reference.
Stop bhing and get behind the players ffs.

I think Southgate should/will change 4 or 5 players for the next game. Up against a very poor team, its a perfect opportunity to rest a few players and give a few starts to players that haven't had much/any action yet. Even the simple matter of giving a large portion of the squad some minutes on the pitch can only be good for a group of players so that everyone can feel they're truly involved and making a contribution. If you're 2 games in and 18 or 19 players have already been out on the pitch then team morale/bonding will just grow and grow from then on.
If Southgate really believes England can go far, then he's bound to rotate the squad for the next match, especially considering the opposition. He would be mad not to.

Happy enough with that, we have a win under our belts which is more than can be said for the World Champions and the favourites.
Walker was unlucky, but needs to learn a bit about being the centre of the back three. The penalty came when he swapped with Stones. I don't think it was a penalty personally but it could easily be construed as dangerous play - VAR discounted of course. He will progress from that, no doubt.
Bring on Panama and let's really go to town on them, and build some confidence for the Belgians.

lets not hang out too much bunting but you have to beat what is put in front of you. tournament football is about peaking at the right time - you can have a bad game and get through.
plus points:
team spirit - I really liked the pile on after the first goal
Trippier - excellent game
Kane two good finishes especially the second although he like the rest of the team went quiet after the penalty
kept going - lots of endeavour
lots of chances
set pieces
neggie points
distribution from the back is a major worry
lingard and sterling in the same team doesn't appear to work
alli should have been taken off sooner - he offered nothing in the second half really.
obvious penalty declined
maguire looked nervous in the tunnel before warm up and showed it although he improved
next game I think I'd like to see Rash, ruben and rose start for sterling, lingard and young and I think cahill should get a run out for maguire. its a squad tourney after all and player management in terms of fitness is vital too.
not bad 6/10

For what it’s worth:
Pickford, Maguire, Henderson & Kane are the backbone of that team. If Dele & Sterling can’t be arsed, then don’t bother. Too much talent & not enough passion. Ego’s over work rate for that pair. Give Welbeck a chance . thought Trippier was outstanding also. Onwards & upwards.
We could quite easily have smashed them 5-1 yesterday and var was very poor for us..
Kane and I can't remember who were mailed in that box how we didn't get 2 pens is beyond me
Start with Rashford for sterling and give Ali one more chance

Remember the referee in the Nigeria v Croatia match who gave a penalty for wrestling in the area at a set piece?
Well, that's the same Brazilian ref who ignored the incidents in the VAR truck yesterday.
Couldn't make it up...
He also chose to ignore blatant fouling elsewhere, time wasting and the guy stood 6 yards from the ball at every free kick without retreating.Well, that's the same Brazilian ref who ignored the incidents in the VAR truck yesterday.
