Comprehensive victory for Napoli. Well deserved.
We looked out of sorts totally. Yes only pre-season but Charity Shield next week - can we suddenly switch on form?
Another mid-week flight to Switzerland, after Scotland and USA... before flying back to Liverpool then heading down to Wembley. Knackered from just typing that.

When we were in our pomp all those years ago, pre season friendlies barely made the news at all but I have a memory that generally we were often on the losing side. Pre season is nothing about form and all about getting match fit. The results mean nothing at all.
Does the Charity Shield mean anything? Apart from bragging rights, which matters to some more than others, nothing again, surely. It's just a 90 minute workout.

Nope, due to today's media/social media madness, the winner will be favourite to win the league, and the loser will be 100% getting relegated.Oh, and if city/Liverpool don't win the league, they will have obviously bottled it.

Memory probably plays tricks but the way I remember it we were always rubbish until Christmas but then went on a run to the title, generally coinciding with Jan Molby getting a pair of shorts that fitted, or Terry Mac sorting his perm out.Does the Charity Shield mean anything? I'm not speaking about the results in the friendlies, just we haven't had quite a few of the main team players training together I think? Plus less time off after a long season will also probably play a part. So just suggests it is more likely with a slower start. But who knows, not much we can do anyway!Does the Charity Shield mean anything? Apart from bragging rights, which matters to some more than others, nothing again, surely. It's not quite so bad when you send Sky back and don't listen to their hyperbole every day Oh, and if city/Liverpool don't win the league, they will have obviously bottled it.

Always had a crap November for some reason. In my memory anyway. Thankfully Big Jan's shorts are not in there too! NRS said:

Nah, I get that. It bugs me the Africans and Brazilians have been kept busy and not resting. I doubt we'll be starting the season with a bang but who knows. As long as Allison is sharp; he may need to be.Some of the pre-season games are kinda interesting in that they might show that a lot of our defensive game is based around the front 3 being such a threat. With them gone it exposes the defence more. Add in Simon at the back and it could explain quite a lot of the results. Would then strengthen the case for someone who is similar to them for pressing/attacking as a sub (either one of the youngsters or a new signing). Origi is of course a legend, but don't think he's got that level for some of the teams we'll come across at various points.
One benefit is the Spuds seem to think our postings are so bad they've abandoned the footie forums and got their own place. So theoretically they won't be making fun of us if it does go wrong.

Fat chance of that I suspect, haha! One benefit is the Spuds seem to think our postings are so bad they've abandoned the footie forums and got their own place. So theoretically they won't be making fun of us if it does go wrong.
Origi (according to Klopp) earned his appearances due to training so hard "the best in training" was the quote I heard. I doubt he's going to displace what we have as first choice but he certainly offers something different, "if Plan A isn't working". He's shown what a good shot he has on him, I hope he shows he can put the graft in when he does get to play. He always reminds me of an excitable puppy, just glad to be out there...
I really rate Origi.. sadly for him he is always going to be overshadowed by our other front three as first choice selection, However he certainly offers us
something different with his height and different style to the other three.. He has a knack of scoring very important goals for us at crucial times, Klopp has
obviously convinced him he has a part to play this season for us and believes he is good enough for us otherwise he would have moved on, Give the lad
game time and he will deliver, I'm sure of it.
