Telling stats ,would like to see how they compare to the same season but prior to Sanchez joining.
Aren't they just for the 2 games played so far this season?

This was posted on Reddit yesterday. Thought it was quite interesting.

Stats mean bugger all in isolation. You can do everything right in a match and still lose, the Arsenal / United match is a good example from last season. We are two games into a season, so showing “all season” stats is a waste of time.

However, I find it telling that it seems to be the Scousers who love to obsess over stats. Didn’t FSG apply some scientific formula with the Red Sox and bought players based on specific stats. There’s a book about it somewhere.

I’m pretty certain it won’t work for football, despite them tracking it as if it will.

They are, so not the be all and end all. But Utd have played Brighton and Leicester (at home). Considering some of the other teams we have in the Prem (Newcastle, Huddersfield, etc), Utd should be no where near the worst in the league for time spent in the final 3rd, even after 2 games.

No result on Monday will change a thing for me. Well, that’s not quite true: if we go out and play attacking football and spank them, it will mean Mou has seen the light. That would make a huge difference.

But that isn’t going to happen. The only realistic outcomes are that we win or lose or draw playing horrible and defensive football. I’ll be pleased with a win, but it won’t change my view on Mou and his lack of a plan.
ORD, I can't recall reading a post from you on ManU, that I do not agree with, you are spot on with your observations. It is the style of man management, coaching, team selection and style of play of Mou, that his replacement for me can't come quick enough.

Towards the end of last season, shortly after the West Brom match, I spoke to a ManU scout, who was scathing of Mou's attitude, mentioning that at a recent get together, there was no sign of Mou, whereas when Alex was manager, Alex would always be in attendance.

There is no doubt to me, that certain players have had their confidence knock out of them, Rashford being one such player.

I know we all like to beat Utd with a stick about their poor attacking performances, but 17 attempts on goal since January would be taking the biscuit! hehe

Based on the press and what some on here say ,it wouldn’t be surprising .

Rashford hadn’t had his confidence knocked ,he’s just another Danny wellbeck .The scouts are atrocious ,since De Gea ,who was the last decent player they have found ?

As long as people within the club are saying stuff like this the job will be a poison chalice.

It's one thing to recognise your heritage quite another to keep referring to how "the boss" used to do things.

I am torn on Rashford.

When he's good, he's really special. And I love that he runs at defenders.

But, and it's a huge but, he is unbelievably inconsistent - way more than can be explained by his youth. A friend of mine who watches a lot of youth and reserve games tells me that he was always the same and said, when Rashford broke into the side and looked awesome, 'He'll do that 1 out of every 5 or 6 games and be awful in the rest'. So far, that seems about right to me.

However, he is still very young and might become a much more reliable player this year.

One thing that does annoy me, though, is that he is clearly a less impressive talent than Martial, yet we seem to be happy to let Martial fall out of love with the club and move on. I would be fighting tooth and nail to keep Martial.

Moneyball - there is even a decent Brad Pitt movie about it.

The moneyball computer is currently residing in a Boston skip following its last ever calculation was “buy Balotelli”

Consistency can come with age/experience. Coutinho was widely inconsistent until a couple of season ago.

I don't think it is. I think they just refined it - they still operate very much to those principles.

Some clubs are using stats to buy players. West Ham bought Payet using stats.

Martial seems one of those players that just doesn't have the right mental application/attitude. You can try and butter him up all you like, but if he hasn't got that he will be found wanting at times. In fact, his expression changes so infrequently, it's hard to read what's he's thinking at any stage of a match.

Mourinho being absent might mean he actually went home to see the wife maybe ... can't be fun living in a hotel, even if he probably has the best suite going.

Rashford has no decision making qualities, when he has a choice to make ,he almost invariably makes the wrong one.Wonderful pace and can roast anyone ,not sure if he will improve though.
I agree about martial ,a phenomenal talent ,but his mentality is not good enough for United. He gets chances and continually fails to take them.He has sulked for too long and it's actually offensive to United fans now.

Not really. Depay wasn’t even a professional. Just a pudding.

Martial was playing very well until Sanchez turned up. The worst consequence of that signing might be ruining Martial’s progress, rather than having a useless player (and wow is Sanchez useless!)

JM just turned up for his presser 22 minutes early, did 4 and half minutes of grumpy questions then hoofed it. Most of the press weren't even there by then laugh Get the feeling he's a little upset with them & can't blame him.

Their knives will really be out now though if Monday goes tits up.
