Genuine question for a don't-want-much-footie person:
Why, especially now that they have VAR, is it not an instant yellow, or even a red, for diving? All this theatrical writhing on the ground, when the camera often shows that there wasn't even any contact at all, needs to be stopped, it's pathetic. Why won't the authorities do anything about it? I'm genuinely puzzled?
VAR is new so the protocols as to how and when it is called for and who calls for it is still in its formative stages. Why, especially now that they have VAR, is it not an instant yellow, or even a red, for diving? Of course - but my point is, this should have been put in place years ago, and now has the further backing of VAR, so why not?
There has always been a strong case against bringing technology into football on the grounds that the whole appeal of soccer is that the game is simple and the same - no matter what level it is played at. If top level football ends up with technology dictated interruptions but lower levels doesn't - how would that effect the game overall? Would it put youngsters off, for instance, because their local club match down the park does not have access to state of the art TV and frame by frame review?
Calling for technology too often in the game can also slow down the flow and make games seem stuttering and stop start.
