Fabrice Muamba

But the prognosis cannot be good.
Can we add this to the 'end for the Euro thread' as another example of your Nostradamus-like prophecies. Great to hear Muamba is getting better, and hopefully it puts football into perspective for some of us who get a bit over-excited.

I heard that he was 'chilled' to protect vital organs (particularly the brain). Not sure if this is true, but certainly cutting edge if so, and may aid his recovery.
Yes. They will have packed his body in ice and put him into an artificial coma.....it reduces the trauma to the brain apparently. It's exactly what they did to a friend of mine in a similar situation.http://www.saintsmedicalcenter.com/patient-stories...
Gordon Taylor on R4 just said there's a routine test for heart trouble among footballers and that Fabrice had been through that test four times. Makes you wonder about the efficacy of the test, or at the very least about the point of it if the procedure doesn't flag up potential problems.

I think the relaity is it's very, very hard to test for this stuff...even when you're looking for it. As I said above a friend of mine went through something similar and has since undergone myriad testing. He now has a "built in" defribilator which also monitors his heart constantly so data can be downloaded....even with all that they don't actually know what caused his original episode and the two or three subsequent times he has had to be "jump started". A heart consultant was on the news last night, she was saying that interpreting the tests properly is very difficult, and its really easy to miss a problem, or misdiagnose one that isn't there. She also mentioned that sometimes a heart condition can come on very quickly, and with no warning.
At least he's moving and responding, hopefully he'll make a full recovery. There was a guy in the Malaga team on Sunday night who'd been forced to retire due to heart problems, but had battled back and now plays in the top flight. Let's hope Muamba will be the same.

Post like this
For him to
Understand
(Sorry to hear about your friends son)
If he comes out of this without some form of brain damage it will be a miracle.
I wonder if they're treating him with oestrogen., it has been shown to repair brain damage with a miraculous efficiency, if they truly chilled him down to 32°C it would suggest that they're using a few experimental/new procedures.

Chilling patients post cardiac arrest is a common procedure, well documented to increase patients chances of survival and reduce possible brain damage. In the ambulance service we are also encouraged to chill patients by not putting blankets on them etc.I wonder if they're treating him with oestrogen., it has been shown to repair brain damage with a miraculous efficiency, if they truly chilled him down to 32°C it would suggest that they're using a few experimental/new procedures.
Seems he's on the up: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4205926/...
"Fabrice Muamba has had a comfortable night in the intensive care unit at the London Chest Hospital here the medical team is continuing to monitor his progress.
"Fabrice's family has asked us to thank everyone again for their thoughts and rayers and for the continued messages of support from which they draw great strength.
"To ensure the smooth running of the hospital for all patients, as well as Fabrice's need to concentrate on his recovery, they would request that he receives no more visitors for the moment, outside of immediate family and members of Bolton Wanderers Football Club."

Further small improvements, but still in intensive care:
