k about and we'll need to act....
Racism, baiting of other clubs (maliciously and with intent to rile) and pointless and endless arguing can't happen. I go on the terraces so I know banter is part of the game, but FFS let's keep a lid on it eh? Sometimes this place is embarrassing...... Time to draw a line and move on. I don't want to hear any more about any past issues.......Let's not use this thread to carry on old debates......
Has anyone here read through or visited the Rangers thread?? It's mostly a procession of bheggars in to annoy any Rangers men who're still even viewing it. ![](/inc/images/censored.gif)

I'm banned from it and I'm GLAD.
Apparently I'm 'biggotted' (suggest it'd be a good idea to learn to spell the word before trying to use it). And my openly expressed disgust and contempt of militant Irish republicanism and my reaction against it apparently isn't acceptable either.
Fine. That's good with me. I'm proud to be a Brit, and a Unionist. And though I'm not looking for trouble, when my team's space is infiltrated by anti-army anti-Queen anti-British IRA sympathising sneerers whose only aim is to maliciously intend to rile I REACT.
These are political (and not religious) issues. And some of them are very long running and sometimes very complicated issues. Old debates from the past to some, but just as relevant today to many. And they are inextricably bound up with the team I support. Maybe that's embarrassing, but it's not going to change.
Good moderation of the Rangers thread would be to ban celtic fans, IRA sympathisers, and all forms of anti-Brit apologists from using it. We aren't interested in their opinions or views and we will never compromise with their politics.
But if it's quite acceptable to run a Rangers thread mostly composed of posts from people who hate Rangers and make every effort to cause upset and animosity I'm really a lot happier banned from it. Keep it. To Rangers supporters it's a WASTE OF TIME anyway, which is why they don't use it.

Its a bit like being a referee at an Premier League game, nobody likes you but without you there's no match.
Of course EPL refs can always think of the money whereas....

Seriously though, you do a tough job fella, thank you.
That's what I love about this forum, I can get everything under one roof. Law, animals, computers, footy, TV & radio etc. For any LFC forum to survive, other supporters have to stop winding each other up. banter is one thing, but pure vitriolic wind ups need to be nipped in the bud at the earliest opportunity.

Would Ferg / Kinky / Garlic comment on what you guys see as the main problem we have in the threads that cause you problems?
Is it "banter" going too far? Out and out insults? "wind up" posts going too far?
What do you guys see as the main problems?
Knowing when to stop I'd say. As mentioned earlier, there's banter and there's rudeness. There's a valid argued point and there's arguing for the sake of controversy, there's harmless baiting and there's spoiling for a fight. Sometimes a mod steps in, that action is then questioned endlessly until a closure takes place. Is it "banter" going too far? Out and out insults? "wind up" posts going too far?

Just requesting posters apply a bit of common sense really, but sadly the few spoil it for the majority. Respect others and respect mods.
The 'Respect' campaign....rings a bell

Isn't the point of this thread to prevent that? If the issue has continued for so long something needs to change.
Well the current change appears to be working...A dozen new lfc threads in the footy section in the last week, the posters are free to post in other threads.
Pretty sure garlick has a full inbox too.

If it was just two or three people, Mick, then the mods should just ban them from Football forum. But i think you will find it more deep rooted than that?![](/inc/images/censored.gif)
Hence this thread?
The biggest problem is having so many different footballing clubs supporters,
for example, i wouldn`t come on PH and comment on the Suarez(Rat the Racist)episode, because i know it would cause up roar with most RS fans!
Instead i would go on a dedicated site, knowing that the chances are you could have a constructive debate.

Enforce what Kinky said about starting LFC threads.

Speaking with my mod head on, once you step into the position, friendships go out the window. if anyone disrespects your decision, shrug it off and deal with it. You're the forum sheriff and you've got the powers to deal with incidents how you see fit. That's my only and final comment.

In my opinion., the problem is that football is such an emotive issue. People get carried away in the heat of the moment and overreact. It is the nature of football and its supporters to be prone to hyperbole.
Some posters take the game and comments from others about their team, far, far too seriously. They check their sense of humour in at the forum door marked "Football". I believe that the relative calm of the Spurs thread is due to the fact that we Spurs fans have a sense on proportion. Indeed, we disarm any 'wums' by agreeing with their contentions most of the time.
Once a thread has lost its sense of proportion, it seems to spin wildly out of control. No-one is able or willing to back down. Even though, they are usually merely discussing the minutiae of a game of football. Vicious attacks are launched over differing views about a pastime. A diversion from what is truly important in life. It is a shame that a few on here are unable to differentiate what is important in the whole scheme of things and what is not.
Football is not important. Really, it isn't. Not even the Champions' League. Honest.
I believe that a change of mindset among the more angst driven posters is the only way to keep the football forum going. So, proportion is the answer. It's only a bloody game.

I haven't started a thread for months so my only worry is that the "community" will be weakend with a blanket approach.
Conversely, with posters knowing that the forum is under scrutiny and that the mods are showing their teeth it may make people behave and improve the quality of posts.Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
