Manc here, who has been living in Newcastle for 15 years - other half is from up here.

Either way, I lose at work tomorrow!

Hoping for a good game. Sat on the sofa, me on one end, OH on the other and my daughter in the middle not knowing which side to support!

Have a good one lads!

As soon as that free kick was given, I knew that they would score from it, given that we should have just scored at the other..

I don't think Karius is at fault for either goal contrary to Man Utds commentary on Sky. We need something through the middle as they're cancelling out our threat from out wide. Wilson looks toothless.

Ha, for all the Man U whingeing about time wasting, De Gea had just been booked for exactly that.

We're still learning, agree about Wilson, had little effect since the injury early in the season.
Not sure Isak is as good as I thought, little bit lightweight. Tripper, Alison, ASM, Bruno played their hearts out. Dan Burn struggled with Anthony.
Not sure Anderson, Richie and Murphy will be long term. From relegation favourite to Championship contender and Cup finalists in 18 months.
Fantastic achievement.

Gutted. I absolutely despise Man Utd, we didn't take our chances and they took theirs.

Lacking in the final 3rd but a decent performance for the most part. Had a bloody awful feeling going into it though.

Still remember being in tears as a 9 year old on holiday in Cyprus when Arsenal beat us in 1998, getting flashbacks. vomit

I was also 9 back then. Nice to be back in a final after so many years even if it didn't go the way we wanted. It's hard to compete with the massive teams, just look at what they have spent over the years compared to us, hopefully in a couple of years we will be able to compete over the course of a season

Predictable result really. We're not really up there yet, and we have form for losing the important matches. Defence doesn't look a patch on what it did, but the problem we've had all season, scoring goals, remains. I am obviously disappointed as I fking hate Man Utd, but at the end of the day it went exactly as expected. Still, it beats where we were last year, Rome (or Newcastle) wasn't built in a day.

I thought we played well enough to be satisfied in context of our season. There was real effort put in but ultimately we are off the boil almost everywhere from pre-Christmas and conversely ManU are simmering nicely right now.

I still can't quite decide if I want us to get European football or not next year. When I think about the coming compressed month of games and adding European games in there as well, with our current squad depth I get worried but I think I'm coming down on the "yes please" side, mainly as it will improve our recruiting chances over the next couple of windows

Onwards folks, onwards

I've calmed down since last night, and although think that we played well enough to win on another day when things went our way, our purple patch is probably coming to an end.

I still believe that a European competition spot has to be target for finishing this season given how well we performed at the start. It raises the profile and with it, the sponsorships and the calibre of players we can attract. We probably do need several additions if we are looking to compete in Europe, a selection of players from Ritchie, Dummett, Lewis, Lascelles, Fraser, Manquillo probably leaving the club at the end of the season.

I hope that now this is out of the way we can find some form again in the league. Hopefully Targett will be fit again to give Dan Burn a rest, switch out Wilson for Isak and get some goals flowing. I know a lot of people have said it is just the start, but we all know how fickle football is and a few poor results can really turn the fortunes of a team. I'm hopeful that won't be us..
