Wasn't that caused by Bagpuss not having relegation clauses in players contracts?
Bagpuss?
Surely he sold Rio while we were still in the Prem. It was his departure that started the decline IMO.
Never heard the Bagpuss phrase before.

From 2005 but worth a read.not sure how much is true though. wink

I remember the Rio transfer, Leeds came in with a £15m bid and 'arry laughed it off in a TV interview saying he is worth at least £18m, a few days later the transfer was agreed.

So Ngakia has joined the mighty Watford, presume they offered much higher salary than we did - glad to know the kid has ambition. We should be due some compensation as I understand it.

Anderson in Rome, Lazio and Napoli interested, be good to get some of that outlay back - Lazio would be a strange one though pretty sure we would have been paying in installments, if he goes back, and is worth less, does he literally go for nothing?

Reading elsewhere, Ngakia's move was as much to do w/ first team football as anything else. If that's the case & as a young player good luck to him, hope it works out and he doesn't slide into obscurity like some many others.

Again from elsewhere, Anderson has a house in Rome, so visiting there's a much a coincidence as anything - right money & assurance that the money will be re-invested & I don't have an issue with him moving on.

Yeah cannot guarantee a first team place each week for sure, but he is a decent option and was getting game time at the same time as turning down the new contract offer. Ironically Johnson has stepped into that role now and getting a run in the team.

Him leaving might finally force Sully's wallet open though as we're so light in that position & a self-generated solution has just fecked off. Not holding my breath mind.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we ship out Lanzini and Anderson, neither have contributed enough and Moyes will want British players and a solid team I suspect. Eze at QPR looks good and at £20m about the going rate, especially after seeing how well Bowen settled in.

Both left and right back have been problem positions for a few years now so should be a focus.

Scary thing is Masuaku has a new contract and Cresswell is now part of the furniture. Johnson can play either side which is a bonus but we only have Fredericks at right back who is again just another 5/10 player like the left backs. With us playing 4-5-1 for the foreseeable future we need solid full backs.

We have our loanees coming back I presume also, Reid and ROBERTO!

Fornals can step up if we lose Anderson/Lanzini - we need to get rid of Ajeti somehow.

The big unknown is Rice, if he is going to get his head turned do it now not with 1 day of the transfer window left.

Anderson is in Rome at the moment potentially trying to go back to Lazio hopefully (I'm a lazio fan as well and he was a lot better there)

Glad Fulham won. I love going to Craven Cottage for the away fixture, if we can next season that is.

Antonio, Antonio!

Well done to him - picks up POTM (and hopefully makes history by being only player to do so in July):

Although wonder how much of a bath we took on him.

He’s not the first rotten WH signing and he won’t be the last. We could start a WH crap signings thread?

Yep, well aware; just a pisser that we rinse & repeat.

He was ste though, although less of a "crap" signing, more pointless as neither Manager appeared interested in having him play. Assume he was a Sully special.

Have to check, but think I saw him on the pitch three times last season (although that's still three times more than Wilshere).

Edited to add: I got AA's stats wrong - appeared that he played 12 times, therefore only £666k per appearance wobble
