Doesn't matter who the manager is - when you've got st to work with then end result will be st.

What were you lot expecting? Thought there was some decent improvement there despite the result, Arteta already seems to have more gravitas than Dick. Looked like you had some semblance of organisation and effort.

You can’t do much about a keeper brainfart

Hard to argue with that - what on earth is a manager supposed to do with that? He did his job and the players conspired to find a way to fk it up yet again.

First game in a while that I haven't watched, and obviously the loss stings a lot more if you did watch, but from what I've been reading it seems like we were a fair bit better across most areas for most of the match?

Leno is a decent enough keeper, I'm not going to be too mad at him making a mistake, they all do it. The timing is crap, as we badly need some confidence, but ah well. Hopefully the fans (and players!) will see past that and we can beat United with a rowdy crowd biggrin

You dominated first half, Chelsea the second

1-1 would have been a fairer result

Entertaining bit of needle too, 9 yellows IIRC

Chambers injured early on; a couple of players on early yellows; Guendouzi and Lacazette trying to ref the game and get a player sent off was never going to be enough with just one goal.

Second half we were poor.

I was screaming at Saka to go with Willian, instead he ended up watching him run on to a pass before feeding the ball in for the decisive goal.

A stronger bench *might* have changed the dynamics somewhat.

Definitely some positives to be taken from today, the way the team pressed and worked together was much improved. Such a shame we have picked up the defensive injuries we've had, Saka shouldn't even have to be in that position.

Ref was a complete joke with Jorginho, especially booking our players soon after for similar offences!

Gutting for Leno, but without him we would probably actually be in the relegation zone.

I’ve calmed down a bit now, my TV was as close as it’s ever come to an early death hehe

The positives from today are the way we played in the first half, if Arteta can get us does that for 90 minutes we’ll be fine, but 45 minutes is no good. He’s had a week with the players and already you can see the attitude change, positivety and confidence. Lenos f**k up was a one off, the self destruct immediately after was what needs looking at. Being realistic a draw would have been fair, but no we went gung-ho pushing for the win and paid the price.

I hope with a bit more time things will improve, but I think another loss on NYD against Man Utd might do untold damage. frown

Time and time again when teams break against you, your whole back four seems to retreat at an incredible rate of knots, instead of stepping up and someone committing a foul to stop the play ... Citeh have been doing it since Pep and Arteta have been there ... I don’t like to see it as it’s cynical, but you’ll continue to leak goals on the counter until someone gets a grip ...

Haven’t watched the game yet but apparently we were decent first half. That’s better than 90 m ins of ste which we had every game under Emery this season.

Losing to Man U won’t do untold damage...damage has already been done. It might knock us back a bit but you can see things have improved....you cant do anything about individual errors. Leno has been superb this season.

It was clear from the first game that Arteta had the team much better organised in what was a very short period of time. We won’t see a team playing as he wants them for two months minimum...maybe all season. Look at what happened with Klopp and Guardiola in their first seasons...there is no such thing as a quick fix if you want longevity,

The good thing is that we’re placed so badly in the PL that hopefully things can be looked at longer term. The important thing for this team is that by the time the EL starts again we’re playing better and have a chance of doing something in that competition.

100%

A clear foul by Jorginho (very surprised that MOTD2 and SkySports News even showed it), which should have been a 2nd yellow card, he then wrestles Torriera to the ground as the corner is taken and scores mad
Somehow we ended up with more yellow cards than Chelsea (5 to 4) confused

Definitely didn’t get the rub of the green....although I do wonder if Lacazette and Guendouzzi hadn’t gone waving their hands asking for a card to be brandished the Ref might have. It shouldn’t have an impact on the Ref but human nature is like that !

He was really lucky and I really don’t understand how VAR didn’t even look at the foul for the first goal. Although if Lacazette hadn’t been caught napping in the run up to the free kick it would never have happened.....slight lack of intensity and bingo you get a goal.

As a Chelsea fan, I couldn't believe that when I saw it. Saka is 18 and had 10 yards head start on Willian, who is 31. And Willian roasts him alive. I think saka looks a really good prospect but he deserves a right kick up the jacksy for his role in the winning goal.

A few minutes before the goal, Saka slid in to clear a ball or gone in for a tackle, you could see afterwards he was in a bit of discomfort like he tweaked his hamstring.
