That’s that then. I don’t know about anyone else, but it feels like we’ve been beaten over these two legs by a not very good team. Frustrating.
Totally agree, we just could not penetrate them or finish against them.No disgrace.
We were beaten, but not badly. Think we can generally hold our heads up, especially Tino who was literally everywhere. Tripps had a bit of a 'mare today and if big Joe had just had better aim it may have been different.
Wouldn't actually mind finishing 4th with our current injury list!

They've definitely been the better team over the 2 matches. They just knew how to play against us. You can tell how experienced they are. This is a team that only narrowly lost out on the Bundesliga title last year.
We are a team just getting to grips with this sort of thing, and one that is fairly ravaged with injuries now. It's unravelling but in a way they need a break!
They should simply try and enjoy the last two games now without expectation. This has still been a great experience so far.

Think injuries / fatigue / a lack of experience in the Champo's league caught up with us.
Absolutely this. It's not over yet, but this should work as a wake up call to fans. We're getting there, but with a weakened squad and this insane schedule, we need to realign where the seasons priorities are. I genuinely think a domestic cup should be the main priority. Love this team, long maybe this excitement around Newcastle continue.

OK we're now 4th but the fat lady ain't singing yet
Impressed with the lads again tonight, mostly.
Hall had a few good moments but generally overwhelmed, Longstaff was a spectator for much of the game but other than that, Pope, Schar, Trips (mostly) Bruno, Big Joe, Willock, Miggy, were all good. Thought Gordon just looked exhausted after ten minutes, he'd run himself into the ground last weekend. Tino Litvento was everywhere, defence, attack, a star in the making. Good purchase.
I know they all practice together but when you play as a team with the same guys every week you kind of get to know where they'll be. When the line up changes week in week out it's harder to know where to expect someone to be.
Too many changes to key players have had an impact, couple that to the run of games on a team that wins in large part by outworking the opposition and you get results like that.
I honestly thought they only edged it, 5% better kind of thing. With a full, rested team perhaps the other way or a draw.
First trip(s) into Europe for 20 years and we’re that close? That’s impressive, not just the lads but the coaching team and back room stuff as well remember.
Perspective needed from some of our fans I fancy. I maintained from the start that if we ended up 3rd in the group that would be a success. That’s still entirely in our hands, if not more.

Nicely said. Expectations of fans are high this season. Perhaps rightly so, but the bar has been lowered, and expectations should meet that. Our squad has been ravaged, and it's difficult to see how we can continue to overpower opponents without a fully fit squad. I honestly thought they only edged it, 5% better kind of thing. Isak, Murphy and Burn are huge misses. Anderson, Botman and Barnes will be great to have back too. As long as the fit crop of players stay fit, we could have a great second half of the season.
Europe was always a bonus. The primary focus should be silverware this season. We have the squad for that.

We should always be looking to compete in any competition we are in as otherwise it's pointless even getting involved. That said, I think we would have done far better had we had the luxury of the rest of the first team. In losing them to injury we have been forced to play the same players week in week out and playing 2 games a week clearly takes its toll. I think the squad was ready for Europe and domestic competition, we just seem to have had such poor luck with freak injuries. Backs, toes, shoulders and then Tonali being banned. That's not to consider the other expected injuries of hamstrings, ankles etc. Isak, Murphy and Burn are huge misses. Anderson, Botman and Barnes will be great to have back too. As long as the fit crop of players stay fit, we could have a great second half of the season.

I'm just pleased we've got owners who care and a team that tries after years of the opposite. Wonderful to watch and witness.
I think fans of any club would like to think that these are a given but it’s not always so, as lots of clubs/fans can attest to. Glad that your club has the owners now that the fans have always deserved … don’t expect too much this season - if you’re pretty competitive on all fronts again that’ll have been a good campaign ..Gassing Station | Football | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
