I don't get it, FSG should have sold on the third bid.

Guess they will get him to bite someone to give them a reason like the last time.

Ps- feel free to give that credit now FSG have refused to sell him. For the 3rd time
I'd leave it until September 1st, then see what he has to say.
Where are the signings? We do agree don't we that we were looking to strengthen this window and not rely on selling to buy?

Is it time yet to acknowledge that Coutinho's back injury is fabricated or are we still believing he's the loyal professional who's not pushing for a move?
You were the only one referring to his professionalism and that is was FSG trying to sell him
Keep making things up. Before he put his transfer request in, there were many posters on here talking about his professionalism.

What do you think Pommy? Is the back injury fabricated?
You are the only one to have used the word professionalism in context to PC - You stated on 9 August:

Keep at it. There are plenty of people on here lining up to portray Coutinho as a good egg who was happy here and not the sort to feign an injury.

Coutinho is a professional by all reports. Not causing a fuss.
Ps- feel free to give that credit now FSG have refused to sell him. For the 3rd time

Is there a figure that if Barca bid, we would as fans be happy to let him go? As fans, we shouldn't really care about what a player sells for and given the window is so almost at an end, doesn't give us many options to buy at this stage.

£115m though is a HUGE amount of money, even in these crazy times. For an £8.5m investment, FSG must be licking their lips behind the scenes. But they also said they wouldn't sell. Hard to go back on that especially with fans waitng to line up with pitchforks...
More than pitchforks mate. I'm certain they'd struggle to get in the stadium and would have to have a security detail to get out unscathed.

The Kop is increasingly turning on them. All talk about signings and as the first home game beckons there is very little of what was promised.

And of course, even if they wanted to, there's no guarantees that they'd be able to spend the money this late in the window.

Any news on new signings by the way? All very very quiet on that front.

Sorry Pommy, you and a few of the others can gang up all you want. There are plenty of people on here that were giving credit to Coutinho's professionalism and not being that type of player. Give it a rest.

But rich you asking someone to give it a rest.

You said I fabricated something and I clearly didn't - feel free to quote the others to prove me wrong

So, that credit or are you doing your usual avoidance?

Anyway - where's the credit to FSG you said you'd give?

I'd be happy with £118m in one lump

I'd be even happier if then then made securing bids for Sanchez and Van Dijk with the lot of it

You did fabricate. You said I was the ONLY one...

Oh and this is the actual amount they bid according to Paul Joyce

Liverpool have rejected a third bid worth a total of £118 million for Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona which included a payment if the Brazilian wins the Ballon d’Or.

The offer - which would have been a record fee received by a British club - was tabled today and immediately rebuffed, with Liverpool adamant that they will not buckle under the Catalan club’s persistent pursuit of the player.
The breakdown of Barcelona’s bid would have seen Liverpool receive a guaranteed payment of £82.1 million with a further £36.5 million linked to the progress of Coutinho and his new club.

Of those add-ons, Barcelona wanted to pay a specific sum if Coutinho followed the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in lifting the Ballon d’Or, the award for the best player in the world. They also proposed payments linked to the club winning the Champions League in future.

Great thanks for the article.

Now where's the credit?

What credit? All I see is Barcelona have tried to low ball the masters of lowballers.

I'd wait till the window closes.

Where's the FSG record signings by the way? As it stands Huddersfield Town have spent more than us.

I think even the 82 million was structured payments.

They must think they've got the upper hand, there's something else going on here. I'd imagine Coutinho is on strike.

I'm only going off what Klopp said about the targets when the season closed.

First home game tomorrow and we have Salah. The young left back even Klopp has come out and said he's not tactically ready. That's ominous imo when you have Moreno ahead of you! And Solanke, brought in on a free for the under 23s.

I'm not sure how any fan can defend this after Klopp managed to get top 4 with the thinnest of squads last season. Do you ever get to a game by the way Pommy? Listen to the chat in the pubs before or the mutterings during the games?

Given he's so anxious to play in the WC I doubt he will remain so for long

Joyce reports that Coutinho has told Klopp he never wants to play for Liverpool again in light of their decision to block him from moving to Spain.

Quite how Klopp reacted to Coutinho's threat remains to be seen but, if true, it's pretty unprofessional from the Brazil international.... In The Times

Yes, I might even see you at the Palace game tomorrow... You'll be the one holding the 'FSG OUT banner I take it.

You told me wait to the end of the window and you've already written it off - hypocrite.

There is some utter bilge being said on here. Costa is on strike, effectively. Can anyone REALLY see Coutinho doing the same thing? Or refusing to get his head down and do his best come 1st Sept if he's not sold? With a WC coming next year - and a possible move that could be agreed next year, if he performs well (he could pick and choose, if we decide to sell then), of course he'd knuckle under.

What really pees me off though are the rent-a-quote ex players all saying how damaging it is for Liverpool NOT to sell (Jermaine Jenas, the latest). "Shock horror, ex players in support of players being able to do as they please"... Such moronic, lazy journalism. Which then informs opinion expressed here.

How Barca expect to buy him by offering half assed deals with "if this happens..." clauses when we know they're loaded, I can't fathom. Especially as they must surely be getting increasingly desperate. Maybe Coutinho isn't the main target and they're using it as leverage in another deal elsewhere.
