same old same old, name someone.
Oh God, let's not get down that road again - you know it won't lead anywhere...What exactly is wrong with that?
Well just got back after a few sherberts after the game.
Can't add much to what has already been said. I think we all know where the problems lie at the moment. We gifted them 2 goals but they could have torn us a new one at will in that first half, it was like we had 10 men out there.
I'm not going to pretend I know how to fix the problems, but what I would like to see is players picked on form. At the moment that means the only nailed on starters are RS, AL, AM, JH & probably PC. In terms of the rest, the guys on the bench/squad must be wondering what they have to do to get a game.
Other than that it was a pleasure to watch James, Ronaldo, Isco & Kroos in particular ply their trade. Their pace and movement around the box was something else.
Onwards & upwards hopefully

Managed to get tickets for the game tonight, and it was great for a neutral. First time I've seen Real Madrid IRL. I can't think of many teams that could've given RM a tough game tonight, they were that good. Balotelli was awful but it isn't his fault you lost. Also, the shirt swapping is no big deal. Apparently it was Pepe that asked Mario and not the other way round.
Oh and the Liverpool fans were great. There was the usual Ronaldo booing to begin with but they applauded him and the other Madrid players who were subbed off, and even applauded the Madrid fans after the game had finished. I've been to watch many teams but seeing something like that is rare.

Pretty much nailed it Sye just to add RM players declared at 3 and eased off second half, otherwise it would have been more.
It hurt to see the initial effort fritter out each time as no striker to finish, the players know this but really kept on it RM got a goal and took control.
Balo - that was his last chance really he should be used for cup and sub now and sold for a few mill ASAP a poor gamble and not even a speculative one as 99% of the footy world knew he was turd.
After they scored the ball kept coming straight back, it wasn't being held up and the pressure was huge on the defence - time for Bren to be decisive and shuffle the pack early perhaps but no - witness inaction for. 45 minutes and then swapping Balo after it's too late. Hoofing up to Lambert would have helped we just needed some relief from the onslaught but Bren did FA then he gave up and rested Hendo and Cout.
The only thing Bren did to alter this game was take Balo off after it was lost. This isn't a manager this is running a team by numbers and showing no flair, imagination or insight on and off the pitch, yes he is learning but Christ it's slow - we need SC back ASAP and if we can add JC to help the defence all the better.
On signings how long to adjust ? Lovren and Skrtel obviously can't communicate they get flappy and bump into each other - one flappy cb ok but two ? Laser lost his mojo, did he have a mojo ? Apparently so but it's lost for now. Moreno - ok - need to see more from him but the best signing of the Suarez cash has to be Origi (sp) and we get him next season.
Hull will be fun

Benzeme and Ronaldo's movement was a joy to watch but also was the work they put it without the ball at there feet!
There was a moment in the game that really typified one of the important differences between Mario and Ronaldo. The ball was with Madrid on the left and was crossed in too high, with Roanldo waiting in the middle. He didn't turn and sulk - instead he ran after the ball and retrieved it. It is things like that - the want and desire to win - that is completely missing with Mario. He was a huge risk and it would not surprise me nor would I even blink an eye if he was off in January. Complete and utter waste of time. m3sye said:
We still need 2 defenders, DM and FW
We need a top quality goalkeeper too that has leadership qualities - not someone who just flaps about and hunches down on the goal line and moves like a crab and pokes the odd claw out. Sahko needs to go, so does Skrtel, Toure too that will happen naturally at the end of season, we need Gerrard to retire (I honestly don't see wat he offers us any more, sad as that sounds). Emre I am not convinced at all, the few times I have seen him play. Markovic and Lovren may just need time but are getting rightly criticised - they have potential and may need a season or so to adapt, so willing to give them a chance. I would also say we need two forwards. One to obviously replace Balotelli and a decent impact sub although we could use Origi who will be back next year - Borini and Lambert to leave.Flip Martian said:
They just asked BR what he thought of Balotelli shirt swapping - he hadn't heard of it but doesn't like it and "will deal with it"...
Fair enough.
However, he als thinks we played reasonably well tonight, apart from that period where Real scored the goals...
I don't understand how it was news to him??! Fair enough.

So balotelli walks into the dressing room not wearing his shirt an BR doesn't notice.....?

Ps this is an excellent Madrid team, one I can't see being beaten in this competition.
I'm assuming you didn't watch the Bayern Munich game the other night then?Madrid are great going forward but that defence is far from special.(Varane has a bright future though). I'd even fancy Chelsea's chances TBH.
Barcelona/Real at the weekend will be interesting, looking forward to that.

Agree. Didn't agree with the signing but was prepared to hope he could do well for us. He's just too lazy - our press is broken with him in the side. Get rid in January.DSLiverpool said:

Garbage. You want Balo subbed after 23 mins? It just doesn't happen. They hit us with one very good goal, then two set piece fk ups. I do agree on SC - and hell JC as well. I still think we sold the wrong CB. Should have kept Agger and binned Skrtel. I don't trust Skrtel at all. Hull will be fun

Think you know what I meant. When he's sacked, and I have no doubt that he will be, he'll end up at a team like Newcastle or Villa.
Don't try and back out of the bet now! A years wages says BR is in charge of your next group game. We're on!Rodgers insists on playing one striker so he can accommodate the summer flair players. Like Markovic. When there is no attacking threat it releases several opposition players of their defensive duties and allows them to attack. Last night was another demonstration of picking a side with poor balance.
Picks Coutinho who is always looking for movement ahead, and plays just Balotelli. When Sturridge returns I would bet he will play with two strikers. Go figure.
Last night we played 45 mins with no striker. The last time that happened was when Shelvey led the line at West Ham. Why when we have 3 fit srtikers?
As for our defending. Nothing to say other than a change of players has not worked which points to the problem being how they are being coached. Time to bring in someone with new defensive thinking to work under Rodgers?

Don't try and back out of the bet now! A years wages says BR is in charge of your next group game. We're on!He does need help though, particularly in defence. There can be no one left who would argue otherwise. 3 seasons in and completely incapable of setting up a team not to concede a goal against pretty much any team we come up against.
I can't see us qualifying from this group. I'd love us to but of the 3 European games we've played we have been outplayed in all 3. Yes we should get 6 points out of 9 but does anyone really think we will?
I'll add a couple of things that I don't think have been brought up yet.
Sterling and Balotelli. I think Sterling really enjoyed playing with Suarez and Sturridge last season, they all played for each other. That could not be more at odds with Sterling and Balotelli last night. On more than one occasion they were having a go at each other. Not sure what complaints Bali could have had, I thought Sterling was our best player in the first half. If getting rid of Ball means keeping Sterling happy and in turn keeping him in he summer then stick Balo in the reserves now!
Also, without Bali running, pressing, chasing the ball down, our defence can't push up and press, which leaves them static. It's a tactic that has to start at the top of the field.
I can understand why we didn't want a striker on in the second half, any more than 3 would have started to get embarrassing - though that was more down to Madrid not attacking than our game plan. But I think BR has to give Borini and Lambert a chance now.
Another thing I noticed last night was our fitness. After an hour every player seemed to dead. I don't know whether we'd just given up, but there was very little movement in the second half. Only Lallana and Sterling making the occasional run.
Can looked great when he came on. I thought Moreno played well too. I don't think we've bought badly.
But anyway, was an amazing experience to be in the Kop last night, and in The Park before the game (thanks to Sye for the tip). We didn't get the result we wanted but I still had an awesome night!
What are people's thoughts on progressing in the CL? Do we want to? Or should we focus on the league already?

While everyone is putting the boot in on the players, may as well join in!
No, seriously though, I've looked a few times and Mignolet's decision to come off his line for the third goal looks decidedly suspect. The ball comes back in and initially he stays but then comes out; trouble is, the delay means he can't get there quick enough and he's caught in no man's land.
I rated Mignolet when he was at Sunderland and thought he'd be a good signing but IMO, you need to invest in a new one to provide REAL competition in January.

Yeah he's not covering himself in glory at the moment. Looks like Valdez has been ruled out.
