Where has your manager not been a success? Of course he's capable of winning things, especially where he has access to resources to build a team the way he wants to.

The first thing he's going to do is make you hard to beat. We saw what that looked like last night. I'm not sure what all the drama is about. You've had 2 poor appointments but Mourinho is probably the appointment most Utd fans wanted in the first place.

The thing with Mourinho is that you pay a price for the success. The media circus, the style of football and the lack of seeing players evolve and grow under him, particularly from the youth ranks. Will you be happy with success at any cost and are you prepared to wait a season or two before he genuinely has his team that is competing? From the outside looking in, I'm looking forward to seeing how this evolves.

^^ sensible post. It's not been a dream start for Maureen, and losing last night would have been even more pressure on the team. In some ways, the team will be delighted knowing they can stop an apparently in form team from playing. I still think that had Ibra, Pog and Rash performed, it would have been a tactical masterclass. But coulda, woulda, shoulda.
Edited to say, I meant Red Trident's post. Someone got in before my response!

Yes to both. This is adult professional football, my views are totally different at grassroots level.

Liverpool were poor last night. I think we played brilliantly in defence, but definitely lacked pace in any counter attack. I think Giggs/Carra highlighted it in the studio that our wingers were playing so deep it was almost impossible to break.

I for one am very happy with the result as I feared we would have been under serious pressure for large periods of the game, but in truth they never looked like scoring at all! A good confidence boost for players and manager. It will probably set a trend for other teams going to Anfield.

For me it's Liverpools job to come out and beat us at Anfield, they didn't/we stopped them

If Ibra had connected properly with the PP cross it would have been a masterstroke.

I am still happy with the direction we are heading in with Mourinho, there is a lot more to come, PP shows signs of his brilliance but I dont think we have nailed down his right position yet and he is still finding his feet in the league.

Stage 1 seems to be Rooney out of the team, job done, I did not that as soon as Rashford came off our right side was very exposed all of a sudden, although this was compounded by Liverpool taking off Sturridge

Stage 2 will be settling on a starting 11, I think he is almost there with this, Hererra again stated his claim for an automatic start, Fellaini did a job last night but longer term I dont think is right for us still. Will be interesting to see Mkihi start more regularly as well

Your biggest problem for me when you play like last night is Ibra, you need someone with pace upfront to run the channels, break with pace etc... he is not mobile enough for that way you played yesterday....

Although overall both sides were disappointing last night as an outsider it looks like Mourinho had a plan and that you played to it - boring as fk but you at least looked like a team which couldn't be said for long periods of last year.

The onus was definitely on us to make the running and although the possession stats show we dominated the ball it never really felt like we were going to win.

One thing I would say is that we would be a much better team if we had DDG - he really is brilliant.

Agreed. Martial would have been a good fit I think. I still think Pogba should have offered more in support of Ibra. OF course, Ibra scored that header, 0-1, Mourinho masterstroke.

We looked the team we have bees soon as we got our mobile 4 back together on the pitch.... Yes it was not a great game for a striker but I was watching Sturridge and his movement after a lay off was very poor...soon as Firmino went up we looked a big threat.

I was a few pints in by that stage, but I don't remember being on the edge of my seat thinking we were going to win. But yes, we did get better.

Overall though, as a scouser living in enemy territory it's been a tough 25 years so I am still quite happy with a draw.

Hardly a 'big threat'. I didn't once think we would concede last night. You knocked it about a bit in the positions we allowed, but we were in total control and you barely had a shot!

For sure - we would have been in a much bigger mess without him, he saved our bacon last night too. In time he's going to be seen as one of SAF's best ever signings, I have no doubt about that.

he improved your play, but a big threat ? Not sure I've ever been more relaxed watching us at anfield knowing you wouldn't score.

I typed bigger but my keyboard is ste ....we had a 25min spell in 2nd half where we looked a threat, nothing like what we have been but when someone is playing 6 3 1 its no shock to think there is not much space around the area

I wouldn't even say you looked a threat. You just had control of the ball; United had control of the game. Very tough to play against like that and hopefully we are a little more adventurous in future games. At the same time, I don't think we would have kept a clean sheet had we been more attacking and I don't think Jose fancied us in a bid to out score you, so what other option did we really have last night?

It reminded me of when we played Real in the CL in 2013 and were 1-0 and then Nani got sent off and it ruined everything.

Maureen played exactly the same tactic he employed when Chelsea went to Citeh and won 0-2 a couple of years ago. 'A Mourinho Masterclass' as Martin Tyler called it as the ref blew ...

He tried it again last night and it killed the game as a spectacle of course and but for Ibra's square head he might have repeated the Etihad game. He won't try it at home in the big games as he won't dare so they'll be a lot more open.
