And Kolasiinac on his way back to Schalke. Three new CB’s in the last six months...Tierney looking like a great purchase. IF the new CB’s can help deliver a solid defensive platform things will be very different.
There’s already been quite a bit of money spent so for these rumoured midfield arrivals there will need to be a lot of departures.
I think before it appeared we had coaching and personell issues, and now we just have personell issues. The defence has looked more and more organised over the past six months or so. We've now beaten City, Chelsea and Liverpool by having an overall plan based on a solid back line, and at least two of those games did actually matter to our opponents. There’s already been quite a bit of money spent so for these rumoured midfield arrivals there will need to be a lot of departures.
A back four of Soares, Saliba, Gabriel and Tierney could turn our league fortunes completely around.
I'm now worried about creative midfielders, which I never thought I'd say as an Arsenal fan!
We still have sod all creativity in the squad, and that could cause major issues when a team (like, say, our esteemed neighbours under their new manager) dig in and invite us to attack. We badly, badly need a creator, someone to make things happen, and I'm not convinced Ceballos is the answer if he is indeed coming back. He has played some lovely forward passes in games, but I still recall these being on the break rather than passing through a stacked offensive half.

Top 4 is s massive ask. Liverpool and Man City are very short odds and then you have Chelsea and Man U’s squad’s which both on paper look very strong...although I honestly think Arteta is a better manager than either Lampard or OGS....amazing all three clubs are managed by relatively inexperienced ex players.
I really, really like that we now have three major teams being managed by young, ex-players and doing well. I'd like to think that Lampard is slightly better than OGS and Arteta is slighty better than both, but I wouldn't be so sure that I'd wade in on a Utd or Chelsea thread and claim that Either way, I think it makes a good change from the normal manage merry-go-round and I personally really like having 'one of our own' in charge, especially one that might be able to channel the best bits of Wenger and Pep, while adding his own style.

Has anyone seen the Alexis video (Instagram, reported on Arseblog)? He says that after his first training session at United he went home, called his agent and asked if he could cancel his contract and go back to Arsenal.
Grass isn't always greener. Such a fantastic player for us, possibly the best since the Invincibles era (Fabregas, Auba, RVP and a few others also in there of course). Like RVP, he could have been an absolute legend, instead ends up as a footnote for a few different clubs.

I think it was more due to Mourinho and the bad vibes that were around at the time.
It was funny though to ask if he could cancel his contract and that he regretted joining them so I don't believe money was the sole motivator for him joining.
Such a shame though, as he was great for us but was declining a bit towards the end tbf.
I must have missed his piano outro vid when he left Utd lol
On the one hand, I thought Alexis had been petulant before he left, and in many games wasn't trying, so part of me is happy that he felt that way.
On the other hand, can you really blame him? Our team at times looked and seemed so apathetic, like everyone had just given up on winning and started settling for being okay/good enough.
I miss the Alexis & Ozil partnership, I think that if they had better/harder working players around them the team could have done really good things, but it wasn't to be. Either way, that's in the past and I have hope for the future again. I think Ozil is the last bit to get rid of from the previous era, and then once we're free of him and his wages we really can aim for something worth winning.

Stop God I wish we could have that Ozil back. As I think I've said in every post abut this season, I'm really worried about creativity and breaking teams down. With the quality of our forward players that we have and Ozil firing on all cylinders, a Mourinho-style parking of the bus would hold no fear for us.
Great news about Ceballos. I was worried that we would lose both him and Auba, and now it looks as though both will be here. That would have ripped the heart out of the team.
So Torreira is going, it doesn't seem as though Guendouzi is being extended (or accepting) an olive branch. That leaves Xhaka and Ceballos with only Elneny and Willock giving depth. Really need one of the rumoured men to be coming in. Every other part of the team seems close (not including shifting the deadwood).

I wonder if Messi staying means that Coutinho load might be on again? Although maybe it was always a pipe dream, going from winning a CL medal to a EL team not challenging for the Prem would be a bit of a come down.
I think Guendouzi is not accepting the olive branch, I find it difficult to believe that Arteta would be holding a grudge. Emile Smith-Rowe could be important for us this year, but I wonder if maybe he's still a bit young (or even, not good enough).

Deffo need to get these deals over the line, although we are making progress under Arteta we are still getting left behind due to the quality of players we have.
Aouar and Partey will go a long way to fix that.
Pains me to say but Chelsea are going to be right up there if not win it next season with the players they have brought in especially up front.
Werner/Ziyech/Pulisic/Havertz are absolutely top quality players.
Now we have the defence sorted out we need to get some creativity in the middle to replace Ozil.
The club really needs to help Arteta to get the players we need soon.

Luis Suarez going to Juventus surely means Coutinho will stay put ? I think Guendouzi is not accepting the olive branch, I find it difficult to believe that Arteta would be holding a grudge. Once a Gunner always a Gunner (well except the that snake RVP)..
Funny you should mention RVP as I ended up on his wiki page last night after some random internet trawling. He left on 132 goals for the club, 50ish shy of Cliff Bastin and Ian Wright. He scored 120 or so more goals in his career. It isn't inconceivable that he could have reached Henry's record if he stayed until he retired. Was probably a bit far away, but even two more seasons would have seen him get to Bastin and Wright. Could have won an FA cup or two as well. Would have been an absolute club legend, regarded as highly as just about any player in the history of the club.
Shame, but he made his choice. Same as Sanchez. We always seem to get over them!
And it makes Auba even more of a hero for actually hanging around!
