Conte jumping up and down demanding
Along with the flair and skill it's what overseas players/managers bring with them. cqueen said:
Willan dived imo, left a deliberate trailing leg so there was 'contact'.
I didn't watch the match so can't comment however this engineering of fouls to con/dupe the referee is frustrating to watch, just as feigning a head injury to foil an attack is. Don't even start me on the minimal knee contact and they go down clutching their face ste. Could have done with VAR in my son's game yesterday; game poised at 2-2 and in the final 30 seconds our striker was one on one with the keeper. He got past him and the keeper tripped him. Stonewall penalty. Only, the ref was looking at his watch.
The team plays in a friendly league so point in arguing about it... even though the referee was the opposition's manager's son.

lets go back to referring, with the odd terrible decision thrown in for good measure.
This is the area they're targeting, I think. I think the technology is good but still could be better. Ultimately comes down to an umpire ruling so it's just an aide. Many of these reviews are inconclusive (and bloody hard to call) so with the pressure of the coaches, teams and thousands of fans... knowing the cameras are watching you, it's generally just not as good as it purports to be.
Add more officials/eyes and implement a zero tolerance for dissent. If players knew they weren't going to get away with rolling around pretending to be hurt etc etc we might just get a more disciplined game. Unlikely though.

Not really VAR ish BUT why do footballers still cheat. They do know theres 20 odd cameras out there dont they?
The cheating infuriates a lot of fans but there's nothing that makes me want to get out there and give them a proper slap is the feigning injury dramatics, especially when there's a) no contact and b) they grab their face when the nearest bit of contact could only have been below the waist. Don't get me started on the rollovers. Last night Aubameyang was about two-metres ON-side when he score against Manu; the lino flagged it off. It took about a minute and the ruled-out goal was awarded.
What happens when/if a player latches on to a through ball and just as he's about to pull the trigger stops in his tracks after spotting the linesman's flag?

With penalty decisions, it's there to overrule clear and obvious errors. The Mane decision may have been wrong in your opinion, but it certainly wasn't clearly and obviously wrong.
I hate var, and never wanted it in the first place, and still don't. But to overrule the Mane penalty decision would not have been right according to the current var remit.
It's also incorrect to assume that because a player didn't go down or need to go down, it isn't a pen. One of the reasons players dive when fouled is because too many refs refuse to give a pen if the player stays on his feet, even if he loses the ball because he was fouled.
There are too many what ifs with VAR. I hate var, and never wanted it in the first place, and still don't. But to overrule the Mane penalty decision would not have been right according to the current var remit.

As we're on the Mane pen, what if he didn't go down... and play continued? If it's a pen, VAR should be flagging it without the player's input.
Interesting VAR decisions at Emirates today.
Zaha booked for simulation, only for the referee's decision to be overruled by Stockley Park; Palace awarded a penalty as a result.
Later in the game, a goal (by Sokratis) was ruled out a minute or so later because Chambers was deemed to have fouled someone in the build-up.
Ref had a shocker for me, now I'm wondering if this was triggered by Stockley Park reversing his decision.
