Didn’t find another thread for the Champions League.

Dortmund Vs Real Madrid - Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium.

If Dortmund wins the UCL, they will receive €20 million from UEFA.

But, if Bellingham wins the UCL, Dortmund will get €25 million from Real Madrid!

Wow ! This is indeed a fabulous stat . Bravo

The knockout stages of the champions league have been absolutely top drawer in quality , desire , passion & sheer drama , I was trying to explain to my son that this was how it was from the very first round in the old days , I remember the nation being so upset that Forest had Drawn Liverpool in the first round in 1979 , back then before social media most English fans would want fellow English teams to do well . I'm pretty sure that was the Trevor Francis year when forest beat Malmö in the final , As the OP said a few years ago on this thread it's just a super league already & next years format will be even harder for the lesser teams to compete .I miss the old football days .

I heard this stat as well, haven't looked it up to see if true but Stoke have had a link to teams (guessing through ex-players) in the CL semi-finals for the past 9 years.

What???

As a kid I absolutely supported whoever Liverpool were playing in the final. I hated seeing Liverpool win. I didn't care about Forest of Villa because no one in London supported them anyway. But loads of glory hunting saddo kids supported Liverpool and I didn't want to see them gloating.

As a spectacle it’s good fun , the old European cup especially in the 70s and 80s was incredibly boring due to the ability to pass the ball back and forward between the keeper and defenders .

It’s a much better spectacle now due purely to rule changes .

The last 3 years though I think the quality has been poor , with the exception of city who really should have been winning it the last 4 years .
Last season 3 mediocre Italian teams made the semi’s ,inter made the final with 3 players not good enough for the premier league .This season a poor Bayern , a very mediocre Dortmund and a crappy psg made the semi’s .Madrid are decent but you wouldn’t put this Madrid team anywhere near the level of previous versions and they also have some weird stuff going on that enables them to win the thing whilst being second best in most games .

The old European Cup only ever had 4/5 good teams in it and often none of those met until the final. The UEFA Cup was always a better spectacle with a dozen or more decent teams and 2 leg finals.

Well, Dortmund did give it a good go but Real Madrid won it again (15 times is crazy!).

I'm sure Dortmund will be happy with their €25 million from Real Madrid and have a decent squad for next season.

You are so wrong, take the 1966/67 European Cup, which included the following teams - Celtic (winners), Inter Milan, Liverpool, Anderlecht, Sporting Lisbon, Olympiakos, Ajax, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Besiktas, Malmo.

Not sure how that list of clubs proves much! Looking at you link Linfield made it to the quarters!

The UEFA cup was often recognised as the toughest to win, since 1) There was an extra round 2) The European cup contained the previous years domestic champions, whereas the UEFA would often contain the current form team who would be the domestic champions.

Real Madrid were the holders, not Celtic, hence 2 teams from Spain. 1 from England, 1 from Italy and 1 from Portugal. So 4/5 teams as I said. Ajax weren't a power yet. Anderlecht, Malmö, Besiktas, Olympiakos????
