So going back to what I said earlier, Rory Mcllroy is about to sign up with Nike for a reported £62 million over 5 years. That's £12.4 million a year or £31,000 A DAY!! Now this is from Nike alone and he will be getting all kinds of other sponsorships so i'm guessing he will earn £25 million this year at least so that is roughly £500,000 a week. I don't think we will see anyone moaning at that figure or how he doesn't work hard for it so why do footballers get it?!

If your the best in the world in your given sport then you deserve the money that comes with it.

Jealousy is one of them. It doesn't look that hard etc etc

I will say though that there are only 120 odd PGA tour players in the world. There are 500 odd footballers in the Premier League alone. The average salary is 1.16 odd million. That's a lot of money spread out to what could be considered mediocre talent.

If you take the best in the world (the very pinnacle) I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't a million miles apart in terms of wages.

Apologies, it's 125 odd that top the money list that keep their PGA card the following year.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. What about footballers globally?

That's not just football. Any business that spends money it can't afford to try and compete at a higher level is doomed. That shouldn't effect those that can afford to pay fortunes to compete at the top level. Good luck to them.
Couldn't disagree more.

Fine for any other business but not football where it's supposed to be about the fans, not extorting them.

As for wishing 'Good Luck' to those who are willing to pay £250k a week to an individual and perpetuate the billions = success model. Well it would be two words though not those...

Golf is no different than Football really as the best players aim to get on the European / PGA tour just like the best footballers want to play in the Premier / LaLiga. So it's best to take an average from them as thats where all the top players are. Hope that makes sense confused

Well you could argue the best players are spread across UK/Spain/Italy/Germany, however you get some crazy salaries in Russia.

Anyway, not really sure what we are trying to get to the bottom of here. smile

Well I used to support a tinpot tosspot team who played crap football in a ramshackle stadium. They were called Chelsea. I watched that tripe for years, playing against other likeminded outfits like Blackpool.

Now I support the European champions, and pay top dollar to watch top quality...(and Torres). And we play Juve and Barca.

I know which I prefer.

Bully for you. What about everyone else's team?

Seems they just need to attract a billionaire and all will be rosy.

Sounds fun...

To hell with everyone else's team. Did Liverpool care about us when they dominated Europe and we were garbage.

You may need a millionaire to compete at the very highest level, but not to compete at a decent level.

Look at Bolton and Blackpool. 2 similar sized clubs with similar history, battled out the 53 cup final. Not much to chose between them, but one is a stable well run club with a fantastic stadium and decent support, who held their own in the PL for years, and the other is Blackpool.

Just need to be well run with a decent chairman and you can achieve loads.

confused Bolton well run compared to Blackpool or for that matter anyone?

Does £140m debt for no return = success to you institutionalised lot at the 'top'??!

Oh and what happens when Man City and Chelski buy all the best players and everyone else goes to the wall? Just play each other every week?

No there's nothing wrong...

They have bought the best players yet still not at the top of the league. There are plenty of well run clubs, Everton, Swansea, Fulham who all do very well for their respective budgets. Some teams like Man Utd and Arsenal have grown organically, one of which tops the league.
