I’m sure there’s lots of other places to register a company...It would be hilarious if SpaceX are already sat on the moon with a "base" and a long way in to reaching Mars before Origin/Nasa have even got to the moon....and for a fraction of the budget

Register the company on the moon.
I'm currently listening to the ebook about Elon by Ashlee Vance - the drive of the guy is incredible.
There's part where it mentions a conversation with Tallulah Riley about Musk being first man on Mars, however it's swiftly debunked by him; if he was to get killed as one of the first to travel on his rockets then that would be the end of his plans. I agree with this - if he dies his vision will die with him. I actually don't like the thought of him walking around in public in case the Russians, Chinese or (more likely) Boeing bump him off. The Chinese probably want him around so that they can copy the tech.
But back to my main point (and this is purely hypothetical, he certainly won't be for many reasons) - he would actually deserve to be the first man on Mars - nobody alive today (or ever?) has done more to get us there and if we are going to land there in the next 20 years it will undoubtedly be down to his drive and acting as a catalyst.
BUT - can you imagine the wailing from the usual suspects, they'd be going absolutely mental - he's not black, he's not a woman and worst of all - he's rich. We would truly reach peak Guardian. It'd actually be quite funny - I wouldn't be surprised if he was to announce it just to troll liberals.

SpaceX have picked up new contract to send a lander to the Moon. This will be on a Falcon 9 in mid-2023.
The Blue Ghost mission from Firefly Aerospace is part of NASA's CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) program. This is for a series of small spacecraft to scout out mainly the south polar area of the Moon, looking for resources and doing other sciency stuff as well.

The first of these CLPS missions, the Peregrine Mission One, will be lifted on the maiden flight of ULA's Vulcan rocket later this year.
The next 4 will be on Falcon 9s and another on Falcon Heavy in late 2023.

The big Liebherr crawler crane is up and running now:
Nearly ready to start lifting the tower sections into place.
Nothing is flying anywhere until these big cranes have finished. A couple of SN15’s Raptor engines have been removed for now.
