Venus is brighter than Jupiter and has a whiter glow. Jupiter has a slightly yellow tint.

As a planet or star approaches the horizon, it will appear to flash and sparkle more as the light coming from the object is distorted by the denser atmosphere.

Vey, very faint. Which is why it wasn't discovered until 1781.
